I am using a Nikon D300, I have the sb600 flash, But am thinking of a ring flash unit to use with either a Sigma 105mm macro ,or a Nikkor 55mm micro.

I am just getting into macro and want to light wild Flora and Fauna
what do you guys suggest.
I have around £300 ish don,t want to spend much more ,and was wondering
what you guys use.

I use the Sigma EM 140 DG Ring Flash with my 105. It's just designed for the job. For around £200, it's a pretty cool piece of kit. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replys guys , decided on the Sigma as BRASH suggests.
Online at around £220, but got one from Jessops at £234.
Don,t mind paying a little extra to keep the shop open, and it,s easier to take back if it goes wrong

I guess the ones with all the flashes attached would be good if your soul purpose was to totally blind your subject.

To actually use such an array you would have to add a –8 ND filter, because for macro it is waaay too much light at 1/1.

I'm currently on the learning curve with a R1 - trying to find the best diffuser material at the moment.

Thanks, I have one arriving next week, I got it quite cheap and I'm not sure exactly what to do with it yet!

One or two plys of Kleenex tissue? Stretched carefully an glued onto a carboard paper frame as a mini shoot-through diffuser panel.

D-I-Y has the benefit that you can make it any shape and size you want. Total customisability = near perfection for your application.
