Hello peeps
Me and "her indoors" are staying for a week in a caravan in the Peak District next week. The caravan sits in the lee of a woods and our primary entertainment will be photographing the local bugs, animals and flowers.
I had been considering ways to attract some creatures closer to our caravan so i could still take some snaps, in the event of inclement weather. ( I anticipate it will p**s down all week as it usually does):'(
This got me thinking about the "ethics" of capturing images of creatures and the impact it has on the creatures. For example taking bugs home and chilling them prior to togging or trampling their nice habitat with size 10 boots.
Has anyone any views on this ?
PS does anyone have any good tips to attract some critters :naughty:

Nothing like being prepared for the great British Summer:D. How about a bag of birdfood or some peanuts for foxes or badgers...

Hope it stays fine for you!

Someone mentioned freezing bugs a few weeks ago.....
I have to say, I wouldn't do it.
I guess half the fun is in trying to capture stuff in it's natural environment.

As for attracting them, I agree with GavSt.

You cant beat the classic pit fall traps to catch various creepy crawlies..

Dig a hole in the ground, place a jam jar or similar container in the hole and pack it in. Place some nice insect attracting food in the bottom and then put a stone or something over the top, ensuring there are gaps for the animals to creep under. Leave overnight and check in the morning :) (its handy to have some elastic bands and some fabric to make a breatable lid for the container)

Obviously then you need to find some way of photographing the little critters in their own habitat without them making a break for freedom!

BUT remember where all your traps are and remove them when you have finished! Also note where you found the insects so they can go back home :)

Cheers

Put a groundsheet or similar down overnight and you are guaranteed to find bugs under it in the morning!!

Always hang a bird feeder from a tree or the caravan. Any outside light should attract moths etc
