Ahhh, I'm a newbie and I think thats a dust spot, what do you guys say? I've got a Nikon D40, what would be the best way to get rid of it and without damaging the sensor?

Ps. Spot is in the upper left corner, in the sky

Take another picture and see if its the same place. Do you have a rocket blower?

I took a series of shots and that spot is there, so I presume its a dust spot? I hvn't got a rocket blower, worth getting?

Just confused as to how to clean the sensor, do you need to do the mirror lock up etc?

Shoot through a lens wide open at a white piece of paper. Downlad the pic and blow it up. You can then see the dust more easily.

I cleaned the sensor on my 20D for the first time last week using something called dust aid but there are plently of other good product. Flashman did a really good review of the arctic butterfly a couple of weeks ago.

Hope that helps.

yes you do then invert the camera and use rocket blower whilst hold camera inverted so dust can fall out..

It's normal to stop down the lens to show dust spots better.

I use Eclipse swabs and fluid.

My 1DS Mk II has a stubborn mark, so it's going to be cleaned professionally next week.

Only consider getting the sensor cleaned if the rocket blower doesnt work. I bought one today, £10 and a good buy for all your kit.

Rocket blower from Jessops on line pick up in-store is 7.99 less 25% ( JESODHSC25 ) = 5.99.
Also if you go via quidco or topcashback there's another 2 to 3 % off.
