View Full Version : Which lens for a ballon flight
Next weekend I am going on a ballon flight now I can not decide which would be the best len/lenes to take
I was thinking 50 f1.4 and or 28-300 IS.
Other lens I have are 24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8
i will be taking photos of the ballon being inflated then shots as the ballon drifts over surrey
I used a very wide one for the inflation shots a while back when my step-daughter had a flight for her 18th birthday.
Talk to the baloon crew beforehand and try to get shots from inside the envelope as the baloon inflates - depending on the colour it can look quite amazing - I didn't on this occasion though I have taken some like that in the past - they're all on Kodachrome which haven't been scanned in yet - still have a 10 year backlog to clear.

Since baloon flights tend to be early morning or late afternoon, the light tends to be pretty good as well.
This shot was on a 14mm NIKKOR on a D1x.

Wide angle is the only way to go with ballon shots...

Nice balloon - shame about the organisation. Still being run like a 1930's flying club...
Oi Arkady nothing wrong with them, best mob of the lot
I work at RAF Uxbridge - if ever a service was ripe for privatisation, the RAF is it...
