Hyperfocal distance help needed.

Okay so I have my prime lens, I have my hyperfocal distance chart which states for example that with 24mm at f11 the hyperfocal distance is 8.5 feet,so in theory I focus at this point. How do I know at what point 8.5 feet is? On my nifty fifty you could just turn the dial to 8.5 ft but I cant do this on my Nikon 24mm 2.8AF. Am I doing something wrong?:thinking:

Lots of lenses these days don't have a focus scale on them, which makes working out points for HF focusing a tad more tricky.

What you'll have to do is work out (read, guess) where 8.5ft from the camera is and focus on that point.

Thanks Mike. I downloaded the software from there yesterday, and have just about figured what it's all about, but what I couldn't understand was why I didn't have a distance scale on my new lens, just a hyperfocal scale. On my 50mm lens you could tell by finding your focus point just how far away you were from your subject, but you can't do this on my new lens, therefore I was wondering just how useful the hyperfocal distance is, if you only know by guessing how far away you are. :thinking:

it only has to be approximate in the real world. I'm sure you can guestimate 8'6", it's probably around your height plus half.

As a quick hack though you can just stick it on f16 and focus roughly 1/3 of the distance into the scene.
