Hey all been having another go with the D70 and 60mm macro, and this was one of the better ones.

I have clipped the petals but apart from that I am fairly pleased. Although I did use PS to get the background properly black

C&C appreciated, very new to macro. When i had my compact i never saw the point (brave or stupid to say that on this board) becaus I was never appy with the compacts macro mode. But seeing what you guys achieve I reckon my opinion could well change

Hi you've done a good shot but i think you need to choose a subject with moor detail in it to show sharpness and dof.;)

its not a bad shot but you need to lose the different coloured purple from the bottom right hand corner and the white specs all over the flower are a little off putting

How did you light this? it looks a little flat - and the shadows are hard - was it just bright sun or did you use flash?

Just the onboard flash for now, I've seen a few diy light boxes that i might try making one. And light it with some desk lamps i have.

Sadly the different colur purple is another flower of the plant, I assume that could be photoshopped out I guess, but I wouldn't know how

Thanks for the comments I will keep trying

I think you need to use softer light - I use a ring flash for most macro work. I think maybe if the subject had more colour contrast it would make the job a whole lot easier.

here's some of my macro stuff to show you what I mean:
