Was at the local cable today, only a few chaps on but only one was good enough to warrant me getting my kit out.

Serious talent!
#1 and #6 for me. Looks like you got the shutter speed spot on and captured the moment :)

i've been wakeboarding and wakeskating for 5 years now so i know the sport inside out, and being a sports photographer helps capture the moment. cheers mate, anyone else?

I'm really glad you posted these! I was in the same place on Saturday afternoon (in the rain) and took some ok snapshots, but that's all they were.

I examined what I could've done better, worked out where I ought to be positioned for more exciting angles etc., went back the following day (sunny), took my tripod for its first outing.......and there wasn't a soul on the water!

Looking at the exif on your shots and comparing it with that on my own has revealed a great deal. Unfortunately it shows that I need to be thinking about a lot more than "angles" :shake:

I can picture where you were standing when you took the last shot. I'd been wondering about the large yellow buoy which would've been about 30 yards to your right. Do you think it might add some perspective? Not a criticism at all btw as I love the shots, it's a genuine question.

If you could spare the time one weekend afternoon at the ski tow to mentor me a bit I'd be extremely grateful :)

Edited to say that you posted before I did and I meant action photography mentoring, not wakeskating mentoring!

i always put the camera on aperture priority, on the lowest poss so 5.6 generally (even if you can go lower try not too) and then just make sure your shutter is over 1000, best positions at notts are on the dock (if its not too busy) just to the right of the dock (as your looking at the water) by the first exit from the water (gravel area marked by sleepers) or under the trees where the bench is between turns 3 + 4. you can go further down to the bouy but not alot of riders do much there they do tricks between 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th, (between the corners basically or just after 4th) (4th is the piylon by the operators hut) another good place to stand is the wooden jetty thing by the operators hut (infront of the power hut)

I will let you know when im not working as i work weekends and will see if you wanna come for a shoot down there. im usually free all week though so if you can make weeks its bettr for me plus i can guarantee a couple decent riders will be on (ill make some calls!)

those kids are there all the time.

3 of them...every day...always on their weapon of choice; the skate.

Great shots, but why on earth is he wearing (and almost losing) a pair of dodgy shorts over his wetsuit?

Can't be doing him any favours in the streamlining?

its a wakeboarding/wakeskating style, everyone wheres shorts over their wetsuit. however i do agree they are too low! they've fallen off a few times!
