When using a monopod how many of you attach direct to the camera/lens vs using a head on the monopod?

Just wondered if their was any advantage to using a head on one

Went through great deliberations on this one. Once its got a proper head attached, it becomes more cumbersome, so I CAREFULLY screw it direct to the camera. But do be carefull not to wreck the thread in the camera - they can be pretty soft.

I have just bought my first and will be using the manfrotto grip shift head...To allow tilting up and down etc.

I use a Manfrotto ball head on mine (on the rarer occaisions that I do use it). Yes it's a bit heavier, but you also gain the quick release which means taking on and off is less of a hassle (and obv, its the same qr plate as my tripod head)

If you have a quick release plate on the head it becomes a lot easier to attach and remove the camera when you need to. Also a lot less chance of dropping the camera, which is easy to do when having to screw/unscrew it from the pod.

Hmmm

Thanks all so far

Think I may well get a head/plate to match the tripod then

Makes life a bit easier and quicker I think, also save dropping the cam or damaging the thread:eek:

Direct to the lens for me

mainly to carry the weight of the lens/camera, its serves me perfect over the weekend in this way, check the topics in motorsport
