View Full Version : Canon EF 1.4x Converter / Extender
looking to get either a 70-200 f4L or the 70-300 canon lense. like the 70-200 but would also like the reach of the 300, had a play with the Canon EF 1.4x Converter / Extender today and like the reach it gives the 200.
has anyone got 1 or used 1, ive read some reviews and they say it reduces the pic quality and my thinking is if it does i may just as well get the 70-300 and save about £250
Nikon so can't answer but is your name anything to do with nitro R/C?

Get the 70-200 f4 L, you will never regret it. My next purchase is a TC so can't comment on quality loss, but the 70 - 200 is amazing right across the zoom range.

Yup, I have two and on decent lenses the loss of quality is small. I regularly use on on my 500/4 and am fairly regular with one on my 70-200/2.8

just buy a 300mm if that what you need - the canon 300mm f4L is a great lens...
i have a 1.4 x and use it with both the 70-200 f2.8 and also the 300mm f4 - the images are good and usable but the focus is slower and quality is lower.

and about £300 more expensive, thats why im looking at the 200 f4l and convertor
The 2x TC shows a noticable loss of quality, the 1.4x is less noticable. You will always see a drop with the things, it's the trade-off for more reach but for me the 1.4x is acceptable :)
