I shot this with my 70-200 not long after I got it. I love that I dont need to be on top of the train anymore (was using 17-40).

Oh yes, I like that a lot. Very effective use of zoom lens and you've got the composition spot on.
And yes, I am a bit of an armchair trainspotter, so, obviously I do like my railway pictures, and this one did it for me. Good work!

Thanks everyone. Its alwasy nice to hear some good comments about a photo (not that I mind bad ones though ;) ). I'll have to wait until summer comes back to get some more shots here. Its dark by the time they come thru these days.

Reealy nice, just wonder if it would look better rotated slightly to th eright, just to straighten the engine up?

Nice shot. Composition is terrific and it's nicely lit. Something looks a little odd with the trees above the main engine. Is that heat haze or something else ?

That "haze" is actually engine exhaust heat coming out from the top of the locomotive. :) I think it makes the photo look all the more effective as it shows the locomotive being hard at work hauling it's load up a gradient.

@Ants. Hmm, you might be right mate. The front of the loco does slope back fairly sharply though (from the lights back to the top of loco), so that kinda makes it hard to tell. Thanks for your input though.

@Gribbsy. Yea mate. Ian hit the nail on the head. I try to get as much haze as i can for just that very reason Ian mentioned. Thanks Ian ;).

i like the pic not just for the excellent train shot, but also because it has that nice out-doorsy feel you find in a scene or landscape:clap:
