Thanks for the link - there are some very good shots in last years comp, definately worth a look.

On a slightly negative note I see the BBC still have there slightly dubious rule regarding there rights to use your work pretty much wherever, however, and whenever they want though:
By entering the competition, entrants grant the right for the BBC and another publisher to publish and exhibit the twelve short-listed photographs on television, in print, on their respective websites or in any other media as they think fit, free of charge. Entrants will also be deemed to have consented to the short-listed photographs being published in a calendar or for prints to be sold individually, in aid of the BBC Children In Need Appeal. No fee will be payable for this use. Finalists agree to take part in post-competition publicity.

Wow, they don't want much do they!

Just everything.

And I don't see the photographers name on those 'not very large' pop -up images either.

I guess a BBC finalist page in ones portfolio wouldn't be so bad though.

The independent are also running a rather good compo at the moment but I can't seem to find it on there web-site at the moment. The prize is a commission from Insight travel guides. Link to 2005 competition (http://www.insightguides.com/insight/winners2005.asp?)

I guess the details will be on there soon too.

We had the exactly the same conversation over breakfast yesterday. It's a nice shot, but I wouldn't have put it as the winner by any means. I guess the judges felt it 'summed up the atmosphere of the destination' :cuckoo:

Just read the rules for entry, Yet again another competition that says entrants must not be professional photographers:shrug: . I read on forums all the time about what do you class as a professional photographer, so what do I have to do to be an amateur photographer so I can enter some of these comps?:help:
