Taken this morning, Teifi Marshes in Wales. 1D Mk3 and 600 F4L plus 1.4 TC, all un-cropped

I like the first shot - the composition (if you took out some of the area to the left) and colours are first rate.
Always a pleasure to see one of these Ian.

Love the colours, how lucky to get that close
thanks guys, im only disappointed that the background was so flat and dull, it makes them a little wishy washy if you know what i mean.
A closer one of its back :)

Hmmm Clive quickly dons hard hat to guard against being hit by Ian's big lens!
Not sure about colours in some of them Ian, they just don't look natural unless it's my super duper laptop being the problem!
Now we're talkin'! Good stuff Ian.
I hesitate to say it... but I think they are perfect, Ian!!!
Although I hate you people with no family ties who can spend as long out and about as you like! :bang:
Wow, just wow, I have never even seen one in the wild and trust me I have looked and waited in all the right places and had the tip offs - just beautiful !

Ian, there are bound to be some in the Northants area.........
Ian, there are bound to be some in the Northants area.........
yeah but its finding them :( like flippin barn owls as well
The pick for me is that first one Ian, and given the distance you should have the DOF so I'd love to see a tighter crop on this one. Your 1DMK3 should be able to resolve some pretty good detail, even at that distance, and you have some sky detail in that shot too.
yeah CT, i am going to have a go at editing some of them properly, i just wanted to make the point re them being uncropped and just how close it got :)
Ah gotcha. Were these from a hide then?

It was on the branches planted in front of the hide, at one point i thought it was going to sit on the lens hood lol
Wow brilliant shots so glad you managed to get your Kingfisher photos well done :thumbs:
Thanks Bev :)
One more but not sure if its not a little too tight on the crop

Breathtaking..what a privelidge (however you spell it!)
The boy done good
Stunning Ian! The first of the bunch is my favourite, followed by the "tight crop" but maybe just a little more space under the tail?

Thats the bit i have a problem with, may have to try the magic on that one and epxand and clone :)
Some cracking shots there Ian. I agree with the others, the first is a belter
Well done M8, as an avid Kingfisher lover I know how difficult it can be to get a good clear picture of these lovely birds, a big thumbs up  a job well done;)
You're just one lucky guy, or wait hours & hours.
Absolutely stunning.
Cracking shots
If anyone wants to see a KF up close then get down to the Basins in Wellington. I've watched them from just a few feet many times but as soon as I go near the place with my camera not a sign of them :(
