that lives in damp grassland and is playing at reproduction. Coremacera marginata. No common name as far as I know but don't they have great eyes.

Spectacular eyes Alby. There appears to be two spelling for these "maginata" and "marginata". If you look up "marginata" then a German website details the common name as "Snail eating fly". Alas these two appear to have an appetite for something other than escargot.

Bob I got the name from my book and it states the larvae eat snails and it seems I mistyped and left the R out of maRginata. Thanks for noticing.

Top Drawer AJ, simply stunning. Just got my siggy 150mm and was out like a shot this weekend very windy so all shots were pants. Seeing yours i have a long road ahead of me.
