A word of warning before getting into wedding photography... True conversation of a friend and a client:
Bride: “I am so disappointed that there are no beautiful sunset pictures, like on your website.”
Friend: “I’m sorry about that, but if you remember correctly the weather was terrible, and you got married in the dark.”
Bride: “Yeah, but we paid you a lot of money!”
Friend: “I would charge a lot more money if I could turn back time and change the weather.”
Bride: “All of the other weddings we saw on your website have beautiful sunsets!”
Friend: “We took those photos at sunset, before it got dark, and it wasn’t raining.”
Bride: “I’m sick of your slick excuses. You have an answer for everything!”

LMAO... you've got to be joking?
He needs to have a stock photo of a sunset and he can then cut'n'paste the happy couple on top.

Bride : Why are there no pictures of my Dad crying during the speeches.
Me : Because he didn't cry. I got lots of photos of him laughing though
Bride : But I really wanted some of him crying
Me : <lost for words>

Tell us more, a wedding? Brave boy!
Gary.
given that my phone can snap a pic and make the subject appear to be in deep space or a wild west cowboy, this sort of thing wouldn't surprise me at all.
It's also why I deal exclusively with business people looking to create images for business. :D
I am sorry, I cant believe some people are THAT stupid!
Point them in the direction of this thread if you want, we can all point and laugh

I worked with the general public in retailing for 10 years and I could never figure out how they (the general public) could be so STUPID (could use lots more words too), what happens to all the normal people?

Don't be silly, get reading the various wedding advice threads, and go for a practise with your family or some friends. Keep calm and enjoy it.
Gary.
Gary, your mate missed a trick - should have flogged them one of the shots from the other wedding that did have a sunset
I'm shooting one this weekend that's all outside - forecast = rain :bang:
I've got a wedding to do, thanks, I'll bear this in mind.
The good thing is that the bride and groom don't know I'll be there (will be hiding behind tree's and stuff to make sure they don't see me)

na, the bride and groom don't want a tog. The bride's aunt had seen some of my portrait shots and liked them and asked if I could get a few shots ;)
It will be a laugh if nothing else, I look forward to sneaking about in bushes getting paparazzi shots

Great way to get some experience at these events (presuming you haven't done them before of course).

That's brilliant! I would actually shoot a wedding on those terms. I think you should see if you can get a shot with either the bride or groom looking down the lens barrel but still not knowing you were there shooting. :D

that is unreal , i sometimes wonder what planet people are on :cuckoo:
i would re-do the photo`s and add a sunset in each photo + a ufo .
when the bride say`s the ufo`s wern`t there! my answer would be and neither was the sunset. but i couldn`t take the chance leaving them out .
i did a wedding last year and all though it didn`t rain it was dull and overcast .
i asked if they would like some blue skys adding .
the answer from them was why would we want blue skys that wasn`t how it was on our day .
i always say now . i aim to capture your day as well as i can.
but i have no control over the weather .:rules:
i also say if you want Angles floating over your head find another photographer .

I once had a bride complain that her shots were "Not Exciting Enough" I was tempted to point out that she got married in a church and not in the middle of the Serengetti or going over Niagra in a barrell
lol... I think this is why I'll never shoot a wedding :shake:
LOL Sounds like a WhatTheDuck strip ;)
Indeed ^^
Another reason why I don't do weddings!

My sister got married at the church where my mum and dad go and so got it free. It's a very modern building (i hate it imho). A family friend did the photos because she was on a very tight budget (they are both on benifits).
She asked me if i could edit out a large iron sign thing and brick wall in the background of all the shots. I told he she shouldnt have had them done infront of a brick wall.
She is now accusing me of being "flash with my cash" because we have employed a pro and getting married at a hotel! Family!
Example below, she wanted 25 shots doing...no way.

I do quite a lot of weddings and this doesn't really suprise me at all. People seem to think that one click with photoshop will add someone to a photo perfectly, they don't relilise how time consuming something like that really is if done properly. I frequently get a list of shots wanted by the B+G only to be told on the day it's all changed, then they ask after why we haven't done them.
We point out before the wedding that if it rains we may have to shoot indoors, to be fair we don't get any real problems, but then we are fairly selective about our customers, we'll simply put off any we don't like the look of.
Sadly we can't do the same for the vicars/priests, some of them are barking mad! Wayne

Exactly, if it's a wet day everybody will remember oh didn't they have terrible weather, if the photos are all shot like it was 80 degrees and bright sunshine when she shows them around they're all going to comment on them, might as well just photoshop them and not even bother with a photographer at all.
Bride... "I dont look beautiful in any of the pictures"
Photographer.... "thats because you are ugly".

LOL Horror stories. :D
I took a wedding at very short notice once, just a couple of days, which I wouldn't normally do, but the groom was a friend of a friend and I had my arm twisted. The money was nothing to get excited about either.
The venue for the reception was a pub which I knew was hopeless for photographs, so I scooted round to the church on the morning of the wedding getting there a good hour early to reccy it out. (Incidentally the organist was also there panicking like Hell as he had no idea what he was expected to play)
The church was a little old Methodist one surrounded by crumbly old industrial buildings and walls everywhere with some pretty explicit unsavory graffiti. I spotted a church spire literally around the corner about 150 yards away and I quickly nipped round there to find the vicar on his hands and knees tending the flower beds in lovely rolling gardens. He had no objection to me taking the party into his gardens, in fact it turned out it was a fairly regular occurrence.
Come the wedding I got the the shots in the church OK and when everyone piled outside, I put my suggestion to the couple about moving next door and the bride threw a wobbly, shouting she'd attended the church since she was a child and what sort of tog was I if I couldn't take the shots there. The graffiti surrounding us seemed to be completely lost on her. Eventually the groom put his foot down and told her we were going next door and that was the end of it.
The shots turned out really well in a lovely setting, but when I dropped the shots off to the couple a few weeks later, she had the nerve to try to negotiate a discount because of the venue for the shots. Unsuccessfully I might add. ;)

Interesting read this thread - even some of the pros have had nightmare weddings by the sound of it!
Well when you do enough weddings, you're dealing with a cross section of the public so you'll get all sorts. You'll meet some wonderful people, but inevitably, some not so wonderful ones too. ;)

she said they are fantastic i didn`t think we would get any decent photo`s . thankyou ! , it`s not your fault it rained.

For everyone that has said this - this kind of nuttiness is the exception rather the rule. I've had the crying father request and one other complaint - that I had missed a shot - I had, in four years and 150+ weddings.

I spent 5 hours shooting a wedding on Saturday and I really, no honestly really, wanted to get a pic of granny smiling. In the whole 5 hours her face never cracked the once. As I was leaving I asked her if she had a nice day.
"Oh lovely", she replied "One of the happiest days of my life"

A brilliant pro I worked with used to come up with various phrases, and this one is to couples arriving late for the wedding, when everyone looks pretty missy anyway..
''Hya.. [and looking directly at the womans hair] ...did you come on the back of his motorbike?''
If you're out there Martin, you'll remember the woman's face :gag:
