Hi, new here and new to photography really.

Spent years with a pocket camera and decided to get something a bit better.

This is my first photo after playing with the settings, shutter, aperture etc are all very new to me and i have a lot to learn.

I havent a clue on settings but this was the best looking in my opinion.

Thanks

I like it apart from your wife's shadow. The setting, the subject and the colours are great.

I cropped that out and got:

which I think looks better

The crop does improve it a bit but needs more space on the right to give the effect of the kid looking into it.

I made sure my shadow wasnt in shot (behind me) only to find out the wife's shadow was :bang:

Thanks

I have changed the crop - does this one look better?

Yup, imho that has the desired effect. Just gives it a bit more depth. Cool:thumbs:

Sorry, I get my shadow in so often I just assumed it was yours. The difficulty with photography is looking at the prospective shot and seeing all that's wrong with it. We can all see its good points because that is the reason for taking the picture. Patience becomes paramount, waiting for the moment to click.

I am sure that you are going to show us lots more really good shots in future.

I prefer this crop to mine. I was thinking of trying a landscape crop.

I was able to clean it up a bit for you. I lightened the dark areas around the tree to bring some detail forward, cloned over the shadow and applied a warming filter to bring out the color.

Without a full-size or raw image, the sky is beyond help, unfortunately.

I really do like the composition though, with her looking out into the pond.

Thanks for all your comments and edits, so all in all, not bad for a first attempt.

I also tried a close up of a flower which family say looks excellent. will have to post that and see what you all think.

Hello Meno - it looks to me like you have a good eye for a picture. You can learn all the other stuff, but the 'eye' is more difficult to train.

Looking forward to seeing more
