Went down to Colwick Park by the River Trent on Saturday and spent an hour or so snapping the sailing boats that kept getting blown over. Turned round and shot this one of the missus when I thought she wasn't paying attention. It's my first 'proper' b&w conversion, and I know the background is pretty busy, but hey I like it. C&C and all that :)

i like thissssss :) would be nice to see if you take another shot with full aperture, so the wood will be in focus too. heh

Thanks :) Wasn't really a wood, there's a river in front of her, the background is more hedge than tree. My settings were set for the boats on the other side of the river rather than her, hence the aperture and shutter speed.

Nice capture, and the pic is not bad either! :D
Mabey just a bit too much sky but I suppose if you crop the top off you lose more sky and it will look all cloud.
I like it though!

:D
I kept the sky in for a sense of scale. Also because I love turning blue skies black.

Heh, I'm relaying this to her, and I'm instructed to take more photos :)
Thanks for the nice comments, both sorts :D
That is bloody brilliant, not a fan of pics when sunglasses are worn but this works and works well, I love the DoF, great model helps aswell ;)
She's lovely. I'd crop her to something like this:

That may be far from your intent but it works for me.
i still think background is too much blur :( otherwise itd be 'perfection'! lol
Why are you bothering with photography?
I really like this shot, the processing works well.

I could think of many other things that I would rather be doing! :naughty: Still each to their own.

I think the background needs to be more blurred, a shallower depth of field is what's required here with a subject like that :D
yeah i kniw what you mean. but look at the clouds, a lot of blur spoils it a bit doesnt it? :) a slight blur is good, but not too much! hehe :)

It's something to do while she's cooking my dinner, mate ;) :woot:

You've pretty much picked my second choice of crop, there. Nicely done :) I picked the further distance because of the sky. Oh how I love the black sky thing.

That's fair, I see what you mean. As I said up there ^^ this was a quick shot, and I was more focused on the sailing boats on the river. I think the aperture 'choice' (for want of a better word) is good for the immediate background, because those plants made the shot very busy (especially in colour), but doesn't work on the sky. Oh well, win some, lose some :)

Something like an f/1.0 should do it, right? ;)

Cheers :) Not too many objections if I put more up then? :)

At one stage, I thought of cutting the shot into two and posting the top half as a sky and the bottom half as your girlfriend sat on the bank.
