Was that...really necessary? Talk about bad press on Kimi's part. Maybe the tog was too "in his face" but still...

looking at it I think the tog stood on his stuff or knocked something off. He probably got a boot in the ass from the cameraman too :p Notice the dude with Kimi was going to push him away just before Kimi did, so he must have done something.

Silverstone 2008 Incident -- Press Release
Following the incident involving Kimi Raikkonen and Paul-Henri Cahier on the starting grid of the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, that saw the finnish driver assault the photographer, we decided that it was necessary to clarify a few points.
There never was any contact between the two men, nor did Paul-Henri ever touch Kimi's equipment. Furthermore, the distance at which Paul-Henri Cahier was taking a picture, although close, was completely standard. The photographers who take pictures at Grand Prix races are all professionnals who have been accredited by the FIA, and as the dozen other photographers who were standing next to Paul-Henri Cahier prove, there was nothing unusual or unethical about this situation.
Finally, Paul-Henri Cahier has been an F1 photographer for almost fourty years and has been close to the greatest champions, but none of them has ever behaved in such a rude manner. It is understandable that drivers might get irritable because of the pressure they undergo, but Kimi Raikkonen never even attempted to express his discontent in a non violent way. Paul-Henri Cahier luckily did not suffer any injury, and so does not intend to take any action, but he regrets the arrogance with which Kimi Raikkonen treated someone who was merely doing his job.

You can clearly see Kimi is just pushing the tog off his kitbag. Granted he is a miserable twit, I'd have done the same thing if some idiot was leaning on my bag to get a shot of me...

Nice shot though!

It is pretty high pressure at the GP, not an environment I particularly like working in when around the drivers. Whenever one appears in the paddock there's a papparzi scrum of photographers and camera crews running backwards - I got a lovely cut on my nose when a tv cameraman ran backwards into me, when Fernando Alonso walked in.

Lower level races are much easier...

thats what i thought, but the photographer says he wasnt... but i dont know how he can be so certain when he's looking through the lens

mind you he prob made more from selling his story than his photo :)

Bugger me...how much? That's ridiculous!

Still doesn't excuse his lack of common courtesy and manners though. You know what they say....manners maketh the man, money maketh the fool (I added the last bit myself :p)

It is possible that as he raised the camera to his eye and shuffled a little to get the shot, he could have stood on or knocked Kimi's stuff. Even a vet of the pit lane could have done this.

Still doesn't excuse the reaction in any way though does it. :(

I think the only thing he was in any danger of treading on was the umbrella on the floor which was beside him. The kit bag looks to be between Kimis feet so unless he was in danger of treading on Kimis feet, I don't think he stood on his kit.
Perhaps Kimi's secret middle names are Naomi Campbell.

maybe he objected to him taking the picture in his face.. a full blast of flash that close would upset me too..

Wasnt much of a push, but the way he was standing, would have made him unbalanced anyway. Kimi's team say he was standing on his kit, which looked very possible from that video, but suppose we will never know, unless there a video from another angle. But i wouldnt be too happy to have a camera flash that close either it would blind you for a few moments it looked like it could possible have made contact with his skid lid.
