View Full Version : Can someone help me on manfrotto query?
i was looking at both the 190xprob and the 055xprob, anmd had pretty much decide it had to be a 055 due to the 190 not going high enough.
But then in my local cam store saturday they had both and with the column fully up the 190 was easy 170cm high, and the 055 was well over 200cm high, where do they get their figures from on the website.
on manfrottos website it says with column up 146cm for the 190xprob and 174.5 for the 055xprob.
Am i missing something
I'm 6'4 and don't think I've ever had my 190xprob fully up.

Also , you have to add on 200mm from the base of the head to the centre of the viewfinder. (40D)
im going to have to go back on friday afternoon and have another play, admitidley i may have not had the legs out fully, as it was busy and not alot of room, but that wouldnt make 20-30cm difference would it?

Can't help on heights but remember tripods are more stable without centre column extended
they do open quite wide [oooeerrrrr]

grumpy badger : i agree, thats why i thought the 190 wouldnt do what i wanted, but seemed higher in the shop..

Not sure about the X series but I've just measured my older 190 with the legs NOT opened and then at 1st position. 130cm and 118cm (column fully down). 12cm isn't a lot but the (approx) 5" can make all the difference.
As someone above has said, the less the centre column is extended, the more stable and rigid the tripod will be.
Did you actually measure the heights or just guess at them?
