Big storm blew through and from my window I saw what appeared to be a pile of straw.

Not so!

I placed it back into a nearbye tree, but I think it is probably a lost cause.

I would suggest that you could try to incubate it, after all, there's not much to loose.

It could be another Orville though and that wouldn't be good at all.

That's a great shot. The Dof, use of thirds and the colours are excellent. Then there's the egg which is fantastic.
