Actually made some time to go out this evening and as I did the clouds came in and covered the evening sun. Had almost given up trying to get anything worthwhile when I thought I'd visit this tree...

Not sure I've done it any justice and I plan to go back again (when the farmer isn't watching) to try and capture what it is I see.

Anyway, colour (unprocessed) and b&w versions for you to look at (complete with white borders :bonk: ).

Thanks for looking :)

Totally agree with Boon.
To me the colour version just looks like a good photo of a tree.
The B&W however has character and atmosphere about it from its stronger contrast against the sky and the sharper details. Gives it more definition, alot of detail isnt really noticeable in the colour version.

Ditto previous ... B & W works well on this one ... gives it interest lacking in the colour version. IMO ...

Interested to see what it is you will capture when the farmer ain't around ...

I just had a play with the colour one and it can be improved quite a bit. As presented the b+w wins. tweaked colour version I'd put as equal.

Maybe I'm not artistic enough to appreciate it but a dead tree does not do much for me :)

Oooh...let me see ;) . Good conversion btw. How did you get contrast on the tree bark ?

Only suggestion would be to have a duplicate layer that is processed lighter & then mask back the branches that have gone completely black, to get the perfect result.
