View Full Version : Totally out of my comfort zone... One for Hacker
Had a lovely day out at a county fair today (for use of a better term). Saw a little bit of everything, and some lovely horses :)
Darren was asking me why he could only see one leg on this woman :D I must admit I know nothing when it comes to horses, but I said they were riding side saddle. I said thats how real ladies do it ;)

Shame about the background clutter, but I think these are ok for a first try. Far from perfect mind, but it was nice trying something new :)
I think they're a touch dark
the sky has come out lovely, but the horse/rider need a touch more oomph!
Nice and sharp though and good composition:thumbs:
do you have any from the other side (showing both legs)?

Agreed with mmcp42, but despite being out of the comfort zone, I think they're very good :)

Would agree re a tiny bit dark, lovely sharp shots though :)
Thanks guys :)
It would seem I dont have any from the other side showing both legs, but I do have plenty of a talking robot and a motorbike acrobatics team :p
A levels boost would no doubt help Betty
but they're pretty damned good
its a real pain trying to get a good one without the background clutter
"everything" is always in the wrong place at shows, its just there to screw up us 'togs :D
Thanks Cobra! I seem to be learning new things everyday on PS, Ill go have a look at this "levels" thing ;)
And I totally agree, how DARE members of the public stand in the way of my shots
argh ******* dressage, so hard. beautiful pictures though, well done

Really like the composition on no1 very good image but agree it could do with a levels boost
Hope you don't mind Betty but had a little attempt to remove some clutter in picture 3.It maybe needs some levels to be adjusted but i cant for the life of me get the right levels:thinking:
Any way some one maybe able to sort that out for you..
cheers Del.

It's not good to have the side with the legs on anyway
Is that right? Is it not good etiquette seeing ladies legs then? :D

My mother-in-law-to-be is possibly one of the most advanced side saddle ladies in the country. I've done a lot of SSA work in the past and certainly at the beginning, shots on the leg side were very much frowned upon!!
Sometimes (head on) is difficult to get the best angle but you did ok here :)

well I didn't know that!
(might glimpse an ankle I suppose - ooooh I'm having the vapours!)
Ill remember that for next time, you learn something new every day here :D
Hi Betty, as others have said they are a bit dark but you were metering a dark horse and rider against a bright sky which is always difficult. I've had a very quick play with the first one which doesn't need the vignette (IMO of course :D).

I wrote a quick tutorial on basic editing the other day which can be seen here, (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=72976) it might help.
Thanks Hacker, will take a look
