View Full Version : 2nd studio shoot - New pics added and more questions.
Hi all,
I mentioned about a week ago that I had my 2 ever studio shoot coming up.
This time was my first time using a lighting set up.
Well here are a few photos.
As always, C&C would be great.
Thanks for looking

Nothing at all?
I'm no expert at fashion/glamour but they look pretty good to me. In fact, 10 times better than my attempt last year.
No's 1 & 2 are good poses and not too cheesey.
No. 3 does look as if the model has been tangoed or the tanning machine over cooked her. Lovely smile and composition though.
No. 4 is a lovely image - however, you need to make her eyes pop by brightening up the Whites and introducing a catchlight in each eye. Using highlight and shadow, you need to reduce the shadow around her neck area.
No's 5 & 6 don't really do much for me although I can't really put my finger on it.
Very good session. I am sure someone will come along with a lot more constructive comments than me. You will only get better with practice. HTH
I think two and three, the rest of the photos have the models looking pretty miserable to be honest.

i know you have tried your best here and all i can say is. the reason you might not have had the comments you thougt you might have got with this set could be down to a few things.
1st skin tones.... as i was told once look at the back of your hand then at the screen are the tones similer..
2nd have you sharpened these after resizing..
3rd it is a shame that you could not have got a cheecky smile out of the models as this would have and can imo make or break a shot...
not that i know alot just my thoughts...
hope you dont mind...

Is the white balance slightly off?
Cheers for the comments folks.
Don't mind the edit at all MD
Still getting to grpis with photoshop so di you mind talking me through what you did in the edit?
As for sharpening, no, I always do that first..... Will sharpen after the resize now.
I have a few more that have come out quite well (some even with a smile), so I will get them up soon.
Hi all,
Still editing the photos from last weekends shoot.
I have been chatting to MD over PM and he has given me some great advice that I am very grateful of.
Here are a couple of edits using the new advice:

Would love any more advice or C&C from anyone.
Also, on a side note, I am really struggling posing the models.
I have never been on a shoot with a pro tog and most of my "models" are mates helping me out. Anyone got any advice? Any one having a shoot and need someone to help move lights (while I watch you work and leach of your experience)?:naughty:

I think the Chat with MD has paid off as they are coming on leaps and bounds.
Marked improvement over the first images.
Well Done.

They look pretty good to me! What lighting setup was you using?
What were the tips you learned i wouldnt mind knowing this if it is confiential!
Cheers Shutterman,
Really apreciate the feedback.
To be fair to MD, he was a huge help last night, kept giving me advice by PM then waiting for me to send one back with a new edit.
Hi mattchewone,
It was 2 lamps, one with soft box and one with white umbrella (not for any reason, just that's what came with the set).
The whole lighting set up was £130 inc P&P from Japan (eBay).
I had a white muslin backdrop (not the best, going to get something better when cash permits).
The tips where about taking the saturation down on the image a bit to get rid of the red in the skin, and adjusting the levels to the point where the lighter level just touches the histogram.
All of that is in Photoshop (CS3 for me, but I'm sure it works in older versions).

Oh right i see! Where did you get the muslin drop from and what are you using to hold it? At the minute i have a pop up BG and its not very good so i am wanting a musiln backdrop and need a bracket of some kind to hold it.
Again from eBay.....
It was a shop based in Birmingham so I saved a few quid going to pick it up.
This is a link to the shop (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Smick-Trading)
