View Full Version : Was it me or did the forum just go AWOL?
For the last 10 minutes or so.....
I don't think so, I couldn't get it up either.
OK I'll rephrase that...

Gone for me too (plusnet). Also very slow this morning for a while (forgot to note times).
What happened? I've been in and out of the forums, and it's seemed fine. Maybe I was lucky.
We had one or two glitches this morning, with database errors, but only one or two, and normal service was resumed.
I've noticed a few comments over the last week or so of posts dissapearing?
Whilst it was out it was gone completely - page not found.
I have noticed a go slow at other times but assumed it was ntl.

Definately went down for about 5 minutes for me to. Sometime between 10:00 and 10:30.

Has there? Does anyone have a link to these posts? I've not personally seen any posts disappearing, and we haven't moderated any so if there are posts disappearing then any info you can give that mught help us pinpoint things would be greatly appreciated.
BTW 10:40 was the time I got a handful of database errors, could have been a host reboot or some such. (Which would explain an attempt for them to sort out the poor speed).
Also we're currently looking at better hosting options behind the scenes too. Any downtime isn't good for the forums, and to be honest we're growing bigger by the day so will eventually outgrow our current hosting solution, and will have to upgrade anyway.
We want to keep the forums quick, snappy and responsive for everyone, and if that means buying bigger hosting, then so be it .

Sorry, cannot remember the art of linky ! Been away too long !?!
yeah im sure ive posted comments on pictures in the day and then in the evening they aint there!
looking at the VB error messages, it looks like the database seems to be out of contact for a short period, same as we used to get before.
Its just had another 10 minute holiday.
While it was away i could ping and tracrt with no errors....just no site
yeah it went for a quick toilet break that time, was the hosts, who sorted it very quickly!

I can't help it, it's a beast of a kettle.
As soon as it slowed down, and I noticed that resources were being leeched from somewhere (not necessarily us, maybe someone else on the server), I contacted the hosts who were aware of it, and sorted it quickly
All better now.

You should ask your hosts what Monitoring they have in place. I used to manage Tivoli guys who looked after this kind of stuff for Customers. Basically it would check all the stats you just listed , every minute & if an exception raised an alert to the Support groups. In addition we used to check for keywords on specific Web page to ensure site was up & running.
