Went for my second visit to the Farnborough Air Show 2008 today. Unlike my last vist on Monday, I had my D300, 80-200 and 1.4TC with me, and here's the results:

Many thanks for your kind words guys. The skies yesterday weren't too great and neither was my vantage point. Still, some of them turned out OK.

Excellent photos there Martin, sharp, good contrast and colour.
Your camera and lens combination are obviously working well.
Whereabouts can you get views like this -is there a park and view at Farnborough?

Going on the weekend, but thinking about tomorrow as well. I know there are no parking signs for mails around the airfield roads, but as per question above, is there a park & view set up anywhere?

I'm "in the trade" so can get into the field on trade days at the show.

And thanks for the compliments guys! I found many of the shots were a little soft. I guess it's the TC that's causing that. I doubt it's my Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8.

At the weekend I know of a place where you can park usually for free right next to the perimeter fence. Its at the junction of where Ively road meets Kennel lane. Nice big grassy area, take a picnic.

The portrait F18 would be my choice. It's often you seen portrait format for this sort of thing.

I'm heading up there with the masses on Saturday so hopefully the dismal forecast will have changed by then.

As for watching for free, you can always picnic at the canal at the western end of the runway. It was packed there last year.

#1 is a classic shot. Love the blue sky and fluffy cloud background to this. Excellent set

Great set of pics you have there, especially given the speed these things move! Nice to know what they all are too - I've been watching them all week from my garden. The house has been vibrating everytime the fighters fly

Corking set. #1 for me - the textures and colours in the sky really balance the shot

Thanks for your kind words guys - much appreciated.

I do think that the shots are a little softer than I would have liked. I think it may be the Kenko 1.4TC that caused the softness.

And gents, I have a slight confession to make. The aircraft in the first shot, the Typhoon, was shot at the air show on Wednesday. However, the sky was shot at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy a few weeks ago. I was testing out my PS skills to see if I could combine the two. It worked though eh?

Fantastic shots, I saw the Vulcan flying over Headley in Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon, I now realise I should have my camera at the ready at all times Doh!

Mart61.
Some fantastic shots there. Would you share some settings. ISO etc.
Curious as I was on the hillside yesterday in the drizzle. Light was pushing me into high ISO's & battled with noise. Dispite overcast background you've nailed it re. noise.

Thanks for the compliment. As far as ISO was concerned, they were all shot at 200. The camera was set to Shutter priority mode, whith speeds of around 1/800 and I then just snapped away, leaving the camera to chose the aperture.

So does it work good with the 80-200mm AF-D then? As I have the same lens and was wishing it was a bit longer yesterday :(

Yes, it works fine - AF and everything.

The only thing is that it may, just may have intorduced a little softness into the shots.

But that may have been me so I need to give it another shot before I know for sure.
