I like it bit I think it could do with lightening a tad and may be a little more sharpening on the focal point of the image.. the latch and stay,

I am with you on this one. The original was fine, simple and elegant: a great example of more is less. The photographer doesn't have to post prod the image to what they think the audience will like. The audience needs to bring something of its own to the image. This shot leaves us with plenty to bring, in the best possible way.
