I went in this beast on Tuesday at Oulton Park. He took me for a few laps.
 It is so fast. It was the supercharged version and by god it didnt half shift. Its accelration and cornoring ability was amazing. I have never been in anything so fast. Also with it all being exposed it was very windy. The best bit was when he nailed the throttle and the supercharger began to whine. What a noise!!!

Anyway pictures.

1. Cant think of a better way to start then a detail shot

Good attempts, the panning shots are OK, they look like you have just missed the timing to get them perfectly sharp, They also look slightly over exposed,

The badge shots and part shots don't really do anything for me apart from go, thats looks nice, and the rear of the atom looks awesome,

Nice car though, whats its 0-60 time?

thanks

I love them, Awesome...just go's to show that weight is the killer in all cars...all that speed from a Type R engine....well the supercharger helps but i bet the thing still fly's without it.

whilst the ariel atom is pure filth, the smattering of dirt does spoil a couple of those shots for me... I know you can't really do much about it on location, particularly when it's someone elses car! but you can make it a little less obvious with the wonders of photoshop..

a secret blend of herbs and spices ;)

...for the small bits of grit, a combination of gentle gaussian blur, followed by sharpening. you obviously loose some detail, but if you do it reasonably well the majority of the detail you lose is what you are trying to get rid of anyway! also helps if you do it on the original image rather than one thats been resized down already.

for the big lumps - just a quick once over with the clone tool.

mainly use it for macro shots where the subject is covered in tiny specs of dust / pollen that I didn't even notice with my bare eyes!

The Atom is realistically one of the fastest road cars on the planet. Yes there are super expensive things like Veyrons, Zondas and Enzos but the Atom will feel faster. Shame you've sampled it at such a young age - the rest of your life will be a disappointment now!

 I was only in the passenger seat I am sure speed will be redefined when I am at the wheel ;) They are 'cheap' for what they are. £32,000 for all tat performance is not a lot at all.

Gary.

Always been a fan of the mk2 Elise / Exige. been eyeing them up on pistonheads / autotrader for a while.. but keep getting drawn to the VX220 turbos :D

Love the Atom, both as a car and a piece of sculpture - would certainly give you plenty to work with on the photography side - think I could only entertain one as a 2nd or 3rd car though. so you might be better off with the Elise, unless you are properly hardcore!

Matt, sorry for going off on a massive tangent!

Mk II Exige is for softies - Mk I is hardcore.

Was very disappointed with the Mk II Exige I took round Silverstone.

Our Exige has a load of trick bits - big brakes / uprated suspension, close ratio gears, quick shift, VHPD upgrade :)

couple of nice pix matt :) Glad to hear that you got a ride in one rather than just shoot :)

Atom's are unoffically the fastest 0-60 accelerating car currently made. There was an attempt to break the world record of 3.07seconds (RS200) at Trax at Silverstone last summer. We were there watching and it wasn't as exciting as it looked!

Atoms are fantastic! Was treated to a few laps of a very wet Bedford Autodrome by a rally driver in a 300 last year.... sideways everywhere, and when the thing hooked up the acceleration was amazing. 0-60mpg 3 seconds should be doable.....

19-07-2008, 20:27
Shame the Tiger Z100 can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds...

But they've stopped making it, so I suppose you may be right. Although the RS200 you refer to has been out of production for over 20 years in itself...

Well looks like we're both wrong as the UltimaGTR720 will do the 0-62mph in 2.6 secs.

Oh and I do believe that one of the last RS200 was offically manufactured in 1991 ;)

Just had a look at the tiger - that thing's an animal:thumbs:

I suspect the RS200's were ones assembled from left over spare parts rather than being of the original production.

I know someone who had a Tiger Z100, and someone else with an Ultima. Both are mad cars.

I'd agree about the RS200, I was just being childish:naughty::lol:

P.S just found another that was manufactured in 1994!! Apparently these cars are part of the "200" but there is another 40 chassis knocking about somewhere (less a few that have been wrecked in sporting events!)

I live a few miles from the Atom factory and occasionally see them on their 'test track'.

Unfortunately I'm yet to be behind one when I'm on the bike to see just how fast they are, they do look stunning when they're snaking down the road under hard accelleration

Most modern superbikes will accelerate to 60mph in around or sub 3 seconds. I think the fastest in a straight line (the likes of a Hayabusa) can achieve around 2.75 secs... If you can avoid flipping them! More impressive though is the mid range acceleration, overtaking on any superbike is just a hoot. I've stopped riding now as I just started to feel less invulnerable as I grew up but have never felt anything to match the thrill of superbike acceleration in a car (and I drive a 997 turbo!).

The Atom looks like it might get close for the sensation though...

i ride a full power Hayabusa 0-100 is around 5.6
had a ZX10r before that & that would hit 105 mph in 1st gear at 13,000rpm...astonishing bike it was but the Hayabusa accelerates like nothing i have ever ridden before
