Hi,

Thought I'd share a few of my shots from Megavalanche week in Alpe d'Huez. It's the first time I've used my G9 in earnest as I didn't want to carry full SLR kit up and down the mountain.

I have to say I'm impressed with it. It's a little more fiddly to get to the settings that I can find easily on my 20D and the shutter/focus lag means action stuff is pre-focus only, but all in all, very impressed. It also survived some big knocks and crashes as well as dust and snow with no problems so far.

Having just previewed this post I'd have to say up front that some of the saturation values are a bit high and I'll probably tone them down a bit later.

Apart from that, your thoughts and commments/crits would be appreciated as always.

Nice colours in the first 4. You'd be better leaving more space in front of the bikes giving the effect they have somewhere to move into. Helps the composition:thumbs:

#7 (if I have counted correctly) shows just what sort of mentality it takes to do this kind of cycling. I like this as a shot with the dramatic background.

6-8 show the enormity of the task.
The fading light and being above the clouds adds to the danger & lonesome factor IMO.
But like them all for the interest factor.
Technically?...........don't ask me!!:)

Thanks guys, and yeah, it's lucky Son was wearing blue on a blue bike to match the sky ;o)

Brash, which shot did you think needs more space on the right? I'm assuming the middle one.

Thanks for these. I am a keen MTB'er who had a cracking week in the Alps last summer and dream about whether I am good enough to go for the Megavalanche one year...

Nice to see the 'real' side of this event rather than the glossy bits in 'Dirt'.

Nice set of photos and I'd have been pleased if I'd taken them with an SLR, let alone a compact...

The colours look nice from here...

Oh and those ones on the narrow bit scare the wotsits out of me ;)

Freester, glad you like'em. Given the weather on race day, I dont think there'll be much shinyness in Dirt this time around!

Flash: yeah the G9's not bad at all. You just need to work a little more slowly as the menus and options are pretty tightly packed in there. It also leaves less of bruise than an SLR when you land on it ;)
