Tonight the new Corvette ZR-1 was shown for the first time in the UK down a pub in advance of the Motorshow next week. The orginal ZR-1 was the quad cam 32 valver from the early 90's. The ZR-1's LS9 is supercharged and rattles out 620bhp.

gimme gimme

nice photos considering it was down the pub

i was lucky enough to work on the engine project on the original ZR1.. that thing was a beast. it had two keys with it, one that you give to your wife so it would only produce 1/2 the BHP, and another that would give it full BHP.
It had so many lights on the instrument panel - it even had a light that told you if the low tyre pressure warning system was broken.

IIRC they called it the Valet key, so when you handed the keys over to the hotel or restaurant parking valet, there stood a reasonable chance of you getting your car back in one piece.

I wish pop-up headlights hadn't been banned - cars looked better with them :)

Last generaton Corvette and Lotus Esprit were last cars to have pop up headlights

I never knew they got banned. Why did they?

I never knew they got banned. Why did they?

Same reason the leaping Jaguar's got banned from the bonnets of Jags.

Danger of ripping people to shreads as they flop all over your bonnet when you hit them.

A few maimed pedestrians is a small price to pay for cool looking cars...

Cheers, I think no.3 would have been best without the people behind it, but it took ages for the people to clear away.

I didn't realise I had a polariser on me so used there for shot 3 & 5 once I remembered.

Probably. Lotus were responsible for the engine.

Not allowed to talk about what I "might" have seen................. signed that damn non-disclosure/confidentiality agreement.

But they sure are some great pics of a great car.

was a joint project between lotus and mercury marine. I sat on a test cell revving the engine and wide open throttle watching the exhaust glow white :)

Drooooool. One of the few yank cars, I can get excited about. Probably not a good idea in the UK with fuel costs just now though!

Not a very "elegant" car, for me it does not flow together with all those hard shaped holes on it - or is this just a feminine opinion :) . Where does the front number plate go or is it stuck on the body rather than being rigid.

In most states in the USA, a front no plate isn't required. :D
