I am very new to taking photographs and have not worked out how to attach them to threads yet.

The camera took some lovely photos of the scenery around Buttermere last week and can be found in my gallery - Buttermere. I should have called the album 'Reflections at Buttermere'.

Nice images Karen and a beautiful part of the world

3 and 5 could do with a little straighten as they are a bit skewed

I particularly like the composition of no 5 that over hanging branch balances the photo well

The reflection in 2 is crystal clear!

Thank you. No I live in a village on Dartmoor. I was staying at Hassness for a week.

I am just starting learning about the world of photography and don't take many photos but couldn't resist the ones I took. The light on Lake Buttermere on the Wednesday morning I was there was a perfect invitation to take photos.

Re: picture 5, it was quite spooky because the water totally mirrored the mountains. Sadly, I have a problem with heights and I stepped back when I went near the water as it appeared to be very deep by the shore but it wasn't really.

Well living on Dartmoor I think that is something you can change Karen. It's a spectacular place. I used to live near Avonwick. You have all that lovely coastline within reach and Dartmoor too. Get out there and get us some pics lady! :)

My No1 favourite location in the Lake District, the ridge walk above the lake to Haystacks is stunning...

Nice series, as others have said just need to twaek them slightly to see them at their best

You had sunshine!!!!!!!! That's not fair...I have just had 5 days there and it rained 99.5% of the time!!!

Nice shots. Mine are all low cloud/rain/mist!

Will post in a separate thread when I have sorted out the few where you can see anything! ;)

Nice shots !
Oh - don't let the locals hear you calling Buttermere a lake - its just "Buttermere", not "Lake Buttermere" . . . . ;)

There is only one lake in "the lakes" and that's Bassenthwaite. All the rest are either waters or meres....Windermere, Ulleswater.

Thank you for all the constructive comments.

Sorry about giving the area around Buttermere the wrong name.:'(

LOL - sorry for being so pedantic . . . . :D
I'm a regular visitor to the Lake District, and have had plenty of tellings off by the locals for mis-pronouncing names, calling their beloved meres and waters "lakes", drinking fizzy lager in their pubs as opposed to the local brews etc. etc. . . . .

Now you are talking!! The local beers were superb and more than made up for the awful weather!

Stop it ! !
I've started craving a pint of Sneck Lifter now . . . . luckily our local Morrisons sells it in bottles . . . :D

You'd better let the Cumbrian Tourist Board know this too :)

Excellent ! !

I'd say they use the word lake on bodies of water that share their names with nearby towns or villages ( i.e. Windermere, Grasmere . . ), in order to avoid any confusion . . . . :cuckoo:

Similiar issues around here in North Wales, but even more complicated....

Lake is Llyn in Welsh but most tourists still use the English, Lake -- you can imagine how much of a telling off they get sometimes. Me too on occasion - as a Yorkshireman my pronunciation of Welsh words isn't exactly great :shake:
