Perhaps a daft question but I was chatting to a guy in Calumet who said that a Nikon lens could most likely be used on a Canon but everything would be manual.

Does anyone know if this is correct or partially true?

99% true. The G series lenses that require power to use, like the tilt shift lenses cannot, and the lenses with VR would not have VR on an EOS body, but other wise you can use just about any Nikon F mount lens on a Canon EOS body (but you can't go the other way around).

NOt sure why you would want to, but yes it is possible.

Good pro friend has a lot of Nikon lens and was offering some to me recently. I wasn't sure if they had different contacts and could short out my camera or something lol

To clarify, I can use the F mount lenses (how can I tell what's an F mount?) but if I want to be able to use the auto functions I need the adapter? Or am I reading this wrong? :)

I guess you would need a lens with an aperture ring? Therefore G-type lenses probably wont work properly.

Simplest solution ... :suspect: ... buy a Nikon body to go with all that class glass you can get your mitts on ... ;)

you need the adapter no matter what ,,,,,dont try and mount a nikon onto a canon without the adapter ...or vv

:agree:

You will need and adapter to fit the Nikon lens on the Canon body, the mounts are physically different and you will lose all the auto functions.
