View Full Version : (Not another) Swan ...
... well yes it is. The Swan chippie is the best chippie in Southport, which takes some doing. We also have Mike's and he was National Chippie of the Year recently.
For all of you that know your stuff, this is large Haddock, chips and mushy peas with Malt Vinegar and sea salt from Britanny.

Aha, so that's why this wasn't in the 'Birds' section.
:D
I can almost smell those chips - mmmmmm. How on earth did you leave them long enough to take the pics?

Grumpy as I am, I can tell a beautiful bird floating over a pond from a British tradition that goes back in time. I was all for taking the pictures in the chippie so that I didn't have to wait for when I got home. My daughter in law was eating them, so every time she leant back to chew them I took another shot.
They are great chips.

They also have a sit down restaurant and the food in there is better as you don't get the wrapping in paper and taking home effect. The fish is really criap. Bit of a long way from Essex though.

Never been to Southport but have popped it in my travelling diary.
Would have preferred the chips to be a bit sharper, makes them crispy:D

Nothing wrong with chips except my photography. Still there'll be plenty more chances to put that right.
Southport is still a Victorian sea side town. There's lots of photo opportunities as the recent series on the Marine Bridge proved. Later on in the year, there is the Musical Fireworks competition with two displays on three consecutive nights - well worth photographing.
That's all very well but where's the deep fried Mars bar:lol:. I live in the town where these were invented.

We have a house sitter now to protect our remote home from lowlife so will definitely be travelling more in this country and will be calling in on Southport one day with a heavy camera bag and two dogs in tow.

The Swan is a traditional chippie: rice with nothing, just good chips with fish, pies and mushy peas - gravy of you wish. While they do savoury cakes (fish cakes until the EU improved things), they don't do that delicacy. I do like deep fried haggis, not tries the Mars bar.

You inspired me to open another thread from last year when the Sun shone. You could spend a day or two just photographing the buildings on Lord Street. I use Botanic Gardens and Churchtown village as test beds for new cameras. I once took 200 photos in the Botanic Gardens when testing - included trees, flowers, captive and wild birds, and water.
