Experimenting with Texture shots

I've taken a couple of shots over the past week of what I thought looked like interesting textures.

1) 1/200 f5.6 ISO500 @163mm

What do you think, do they work ? Thanks for looking, C&C welcome and any improvement suggestions.

I prefer #2 which tackles a more difficult subject in a more difficult way. Where to focus is the problem I have with them.

2 interesting shots there John, no.2 I prefer, nicely composed and I like the position of the focus point.

Thanks guys. You're right on the focus point, no 1 was easy (I thought I could see a face in the wood), no 2 was quite a tough call as to which point to pick.
