What compression factor number do you use when saving as a jpg for other forum members?
Perhaps my 140kb size is putting some people off?

I pretty much save at 10 (whatever that 10 relates to) for photos to post online etc, 12 if I am saving a full size jpeg for any reason, 8 (ish) for web graphics.

Thankyou J_L !
My chroma sampling is on YCbCr 2x1 1x1 1x1
What software do you use?
It tends to be a bit different in different software, even though it does the same thing.
For example, 100% in the GIMP is with as little compression as possible. So I use 90% for medium sized images and 80-85% for thumbs.
Use none wherever possible and as little as possible to get the image to fit your size requirements since any compression degrades the image.

Photoshop is 1-12 (god knows why) so guessing my 10 is about erm.......76% (but then maths aint my strong point!)

i think 100-200Kb is a good file size for a forum, and i would use what ever compression ratio that gave me the target size. looking at some of your posts you seem to use 150-350Kb, but they seem to download fast enough for me but i would not go much larger.
as with the others - anything we print we use 12 if someone buys a digital image for email we compress it to 1-1.5Mb, i think that tends to be an 8 to 10, depending on the original image. To be honest I'm hard pushed to see the difference between a 5Mb jpg file and one that is compressed to 1.5Mb on our 22" monitors.
