I think there's someone on this forum that rents lenses as a business. I am sure other forum members will point you in the right direction.
I'd recommend Stewart at Lenses for Hire here (http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/index.asp)
Another thumbs up for Stewart, excellant service and price.:thumbs:
Are you going abroad though?

Would people consider renting a "normal" zoom lens, or go for something more exotic?
At the Farnborough airshow, I saw a guy (presumably an amateur) with what looked like a wide aperture Canon 300mm or 400mm lens with a 1D on the end... about £7k worth of kit
He was carrying it by the lens tripod mount. I would have been scared stiff about dropping it

Thanks for the link, looks good

Renting a Lens from Lenses for Hire it's covered abroad by the insurance (if you choose to take the insurance) as long as the address they deliver to is in the UK (i.e. you can take it on holiday with you). I'm waiting for my wide angle to take to Italy :)

My kit isn't worth quite that much, but I carry around my 5D and 300mm lens by the mount too (albeit with the camera strap wrapped around my wrist). Most comfortable way to carry it IMO - certainly too heavy to hang around my neck.
