View Full Version : Finally, a few of my Goodwood pics
Interested to know what you guys think of them, and what you'd have done differently do to improve them - particularly the Mini and what I should have done to have the whole thing n focus!

Quite a few aren't in focus, I'm sorry to say. Were you manually focussing?
For motorsport, I'd try to use shutter priority over aperture as it gives you control over the shutter speed. Some of the single seater shots especially are at 1/3200 and its hard to tell if the car is moving at speed or just parked there ready for the off.
I like the Stratos one though. The flying gravel gives it some sense of motion.
Some fantastic shots there. Focus WRC is a bit soft though.
I can't help with a solution to the Mini photo though. I often get similar results myself.

nice pictures ! i get the same problem with my pictures always get loads of them that are soft ! is number 3 the new or old stratos??
Good set of pics. I got loads from goodwood like the mini, sorry can't help with it either.
its the old stratos. the new stratos is just a show car.
I didn't even know there was a new one :LOL:
was using auto focus, and playing with different aperture priority settings through the weekend. Was also my first time shooting in raw and first serious play with PS Elements, so although theres a few that came out OK, I'm not too surprised that many of the pics are far from perfect. The better shots seem to be of the slower moving cars - guess thats explains the lack of motion in the pics.

Concept Stratos from 2005.
Same thing in Alitalia colours

Really just a rolling shell. I don't think it will ever get made - it doesn't have the backing of any big car companies. Some of you will like it although I think the proportions are all wrong.

:gag: Dont like that Andrewc
Some crackers there :clap:
The Marlboro (ex-works) Stratos one is very nice :thumbs: and quite possibly saleable, because its timeless.

just a tip - but if you post less photos (10 or less) you'll get more comments and advice
in general:
ISO 100 would have improved these photos no end.. It would mean you could have used an even wider aperture for a more interesting DoF and a lower shutter speed to keep some movement. The photos look really noisey too.
The worst thing is that your jpeg compression is set to 6.. its really taken a lot of quality from the image. 8 would improve it immensley.
1) nice composition and DoF
2) Only the rear wheels seem to be in focus.. Are you using AI Servo focus? (not sure what its called on a Nikon)
3) Nice shot, but a bit washed out.. maybe a contrast adjustment and a little less exposure would help.
4) As above
5) Nice composition, but over exposed.
6) Bit too blurry. I think its just down to practicing panning.. settings look OK
9) You can really see how the jpeg setting is ruining the shots.. you can see in the sky that the blues are very blocky and course
10) Out of focus, and the headlamps have thrown out your exposure making the day look like night.. To fix this you can pre select your exposure before the car enters the frame.
Thanks for the comments there :D a few ideas to try out next time around. Couple of interesting points though - I can't see either the noise or the blocked blue you mention - guess thats down to the poor screen on my laptop? Also very interesting you mention the jpeg compression. I thought I'd saved them at the maximum setting (12????) Will need to look into whats happened there....

reallydon't like it in the lime green, but somehow doesn't look anywhere near as bad with the Alitalia colours - must be those stripes giving the illusions of the originals cars shape I reckon

it could be that your host has compressed the photo.. i dont know much about photobucket, but i know fotopic does it.
i got this from the EXIF
Exif IFD1
* Compression = JPEG compression (6)
* X-Resolution = 240/1 = 240
* Y-Resolution = 240/1 = 240
* X/Y-Resolution Unit = inch (2)
