I am loving other peoples work using tilt shift..
So I had a go myself at some Poole harbour shots I took awhile back.
Do these work?
If you think not.. where do you think I'm going wrong?

Dave
1 works well for me, not quite sure about 2, cant put my finger on it but it dosent quite work for me.

I think that the first shot is the slightly better candidate for this but the second shot has been worked a little better.
These stand or fall on how well you replicate the focal plane and it's a tad off in the first. The plane should be parallel to the film/chip, which would have the front of the big boat on the right sharp perhaps but not the middle section as it is now. Unless it's tilt/shift/swing of course. :)
they both work for me, though I prefer #1:thumbs:
Cool tute Dave:thumbs:

To be honest.. I dont really know what Im doing yet..
I just tried it on some aerial shots on google.. Cant post them as they arent my originals..
Now I need to find somewhere high.....

Well it's looking pretty good so far. To get the focal plane stuff right in these, imagine a length of rope going across the picture parallel to the camera. Everything on that rope (or directly above or below it) should be sharp, everything that's not, blur it.
Or buy a view camera with tilt. You don't actually need the shift. ;)

super rough and ready with blur as subtle as a brick and nowhere near as nice as yours but these are the bits I think should be left sharp. :)

I see.. so just mask the patrol boat....
hmmmm im getting it now... I think!!
haha
so just mask the patrol boat..
mostly in that shot. I reckon from where you took that shot, it's mostly just the main boat that would be sharp but also the very front section of the big ol' yellow thing.

its really hard to mask the boast with out it really sticking out where the non blurred bit is around it...
Have to be really picky with the brush size me thinks..

it doesnt have to be precise as long as its completely masked, dont matter if its over a bit you can mask outside the lines, if you know what I mean, you can always paint back with the black, all though Idnt spend more than a minute on it so its not all that brill,
.... ahh this wines killing me :)
First glass poured now, in a little while it should all be a nice even blur.:D
