Lovely evening, lovely lilies, busy hoverflies!

Macro lens, tripod and the odd bit of flash

Sharpened a little, cropped a fair bit in some cases, no color manipulation at all

Here are the results :):

May I just say: Excellent, full marks? Words don't do justice to them.

Great shots. The quality of the last 2 shine through for me. That said, you did extremely well to capture it in flight. So an all round:thumbs::thumbs: from me.

How did you get so close?

Thanks Chris :)

Dylan the lens was about 15cm away with the camera on the tripod positioned ready for the critters to appear - they weren't bothered by me or the flash. Using remote release and a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro.

All lovely photos, but I like the last 2 the best - the simple background really shows the hoverfly off to it's best advantage. I've watched them often in the garden, but never realized they had such big eyes. Brilliant photography.:plusone:

Colours are incredably vibrant John. Looks like flash has zinged these. Nicely done.

I looked at thte first - wasn't impressed that you had got it in flight and i havent managed to get one yet! then i saw that the wing was clipped and felt better...

...then i scroll down and i just was  and then the feeling of :annoyed: plus a few remarks not suitable for the forum.

The pollen is just a beautiful addition! i feel :notworthy:

I HATE YOU!!!!
