We have some good ideas now that we are going to be looking at implementing one way or another, such as the wiki idea, but we want more!

What about a thread in classifieds for experiences of buys/sells?

matty
25-05-2006, 22:04
kind of like feedback? i *think* there is something similar built in....i will look...

matty

a thread in classifieds is a fine idea, though i would be cautious of running people down!

Marcel

We could have a subforum in there for feedback? One thread per user (only started by the user). Kind alike ebay feedback / reputation.
If a member wants their own feedback thread, they start one, and someone else replies to it with experiences of a trade with them. Could have legal implications though..but worth a thought?

How about something more sophisticated for the 'places to photograph' thread including ratings, multiple reviews, a mini gallery per location, filterable by type and geography and ideally map driven. It could be a good way of bringing in new users to the forum as well if it is regularly updated.

Well you did ask :)

matty

aye i think so, or we could enable the built in ranks, but that is open to abuse!

not sure how we can implement that, there could be a plug in though.....:geek:

I think I have seen Googlemap integrated into certain php forum software along with data fields for site locations, user locations, etc.

Photos attached to a geographic location sounds like a cool idea

ive seen something that might be useable, reading through the instructions now. Seen the googlemap plugin, will look at it alongside this other one to see whats doable.

I like this idea, it would make things alot more organized than just a regular feedback thread

i'd like to see an image submit function where you enter the exif info. the code then auto generates the post body with the relevant info and posts it.

the exif viewers I've seen tend to be ie or ff only affairs and it'll be a while till opera 9 comes out with proper exif support.

However the other advantage is that it allows us to standardise the layout of threads plus u can set image size limits at the submission stage instead of having to moderate...

need a php web dev ***...

just to keep you all up to date

we have a glossary section that will slowly fill up, you can all add stuff to it, so go ahead!

we are looking at some review/tutorial plugins, we looked at reviewpost first off but tbh its photopost, and those that know the history of that will know why we havent used it yet. never say never though

we are currently trying to break a plugin, if DF can use it without breaking it, then we have a solution!

Just a thought but... We have an area for putting good places to take photos, but would it be worth while having some sort of calendar thing where we can put on things that are happening in our areas eg there is a festival of the Sea in Barrow in Furness this month and others may be interested in details of it.

Ok thats todays thought - back to sleep now :)

Allan

there is a calender, somewhere...

Marcel
03-06-2006, 19:07
There is a calendar. I had a play with it when we reinstalled the forums, and it wasn't being used that much so I kinda ignored it, ie....was leaving it out of forum plans, and disabled it.

If you want to use it, it's no problem turning it back on and letting it play on the forums so to speak....Just say the word :)

Hi Marcel

Didn't realise the old calendar could be used for putting in happenings, thought it just had birthdays in.

Humm I think its a good idea to have - What do others think?

It might lead to more TPF mini-meets

Marcel
03-06-2006, 22:22
No I think it's a great idea....consider it turned on :)

that is something else that was floated once before, however i think its a pretty good idea, so i will raise a ticket! :)

On the old forums, there was a home page with poll results, voting etc. Can we have that on the new forums? (It just makes it easier to vote on the fortnightly assignment and easier to spot when there is a poll).

matty
07-06-2006, 08:26
we didnt think that many people came in to the forums via that page, we looked through the logs and it wasnt hugely used...but we will discuss and come back

Have to say I miss the portal type page you use to have with latest news, posts, polls - always thought that was better way of entering the site than directly into the forums.

matty

the problem with VBa was it was a PITA to install, however now its at version 2.11 and works with 3.5.4 straight off, so you might well see it again, but without the tutorials and all that, no point to having them there, no-one read them!

Marcel
07-06-2006, 20:39
lol I do like the idea of a frontpage, and it's something I had envisaged us discussing again further down the line.

I'll admit I personally rarely used it. If enough people want it though, then it's only right we provide :)

Hi Marcel - have you managed to throw the big switch and switch on a calendar yet, got loads of lake district and Cumbria events to put on, for any holiday makers like Boon (and its a good reminder for me http://www.smilieshq.com/smilies/innocent0009.gif)

Thanks

Allan

Marcel

Yup I turned it on...but me being a big lummox forgot to put it back into the navbar along the top.

Please think of a suitable humilating punishment for me while I go do it

Marcel

Done for the blue theme, and just going to do the grey theme now :)

Marcel

Done for the grey theme now too  Apigglies for the delay :)
I think that navigation bar at the top could do with a tidy up...quite a lot of things on there....

I fort so Marianne :D

Marcel - if we add things to the Calendar will they show on the bottom of the main page on the days they are happening like the birthdays? Or is there a way of getting them to always show the next weeks on the front page ? Then more people might see it without going looking.

Thanks

Allan

Not too sure...why dont we try it :D Add something to today or tomorrow ;) I can always delete it for you afterwards:)

That's a good idea.

I have an idea to go with that...why don't we split the default calendar into two...

Have one just for birthdays, and another with no birthdays but with customisable events, and we'll parse *that* calendar into a module on the main page (if we can),

Keltic Ice Man

I've added something for Tomorrow - Tuesday - so we'll see.

Like the idea of the 2 calendars parsed together

I take it the calendar item didn't work - I added one last night but I wasn't sure that it had added.

How's that?

We now have two calendars, one called Birthdays and one called Photographic Events.

Photographic Events is displayed on the main http://www.talkphotography.co.uk site, and also at the bottom of the forums index. This is the one that anyone can add upcoming events.
The other calendar, I've kept as birthdays only, to save confusing if anyone ever wants to add an event.

For some reason the other calendar, set to just show birthdays....won't show birthdays at the bottom of the forum index...Not sure why. But Im working on it :)

Apologies if this post makes no sense BTW, I'm that tired my eyes are dropping and im typing out words that are randomly popping into my head...

/off to bed :)
