View Full Version : Nikon D3 Buffer Memory Expansion Service announced
Nikon has announced a service modification for the D3 that more than doubles the number of frames that can be shot in a single burst. The number of FX Format 14-bit Lossless Compressed NEFs, for example, jumps from 16 to 36.

bit of an odd thing to realise they can suddenly double isn't it?

Not really, memory chips double in size with each new iteration so it's logical that if they've now got some new chips from their suppliers they could easily double the memory by removing the old chips and adding the newer ones.
It does seem quite an odd marketing decision to do this though. If I just spent that much on a camera being asked to pay £300 for an upgrade would be irritating. It would have made more sense to save it for the refresh model but I guess they need it to compete with the MkIII in sports shooting.
