Hi,

I am looking into getting the new D700 and was wondering what lenses are compatable? I am a tad confused.

I lent my friends the other week and when I attached my Nikon lens it had a black ring around the image when I looked through the view finder and on my pics??

Are there any Sigma lenses that can be used with the D700 that won't crop?

You want:

1. Any Nikon lens WITHOUT the suffix DX

2. Any Sigma lens WITHOUT the suffix DC

HTH. :)

The D700 has a full frame sensor, DX lenses are "optimised" for cameras with a cropped sensor, that's every body except D3 & D700.
You can still use DX lenses on full frame bodys, but the image will be cropped.
I thought the D3 and D700 automatically detected a DX lens when it was mounted, and cropped the image accordingly....I dunno.

Thanks,

So is that why I got the black ring around the image? I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.

Yeah DX lenses only produce a smaller imaging circle.
