Teasels 'll do the trick better CT !
Or you could jusy buy niger/thistle seed and bung it in a special feeder ?
For the more natural look ... what I used to do is pull up a decent strong wild teasel (once all the seeds have been eaten or blown out) ... plonk it in the garden, supported by a cane and then sprinkle niger on it throughout the winter ! You'll soon get GFs !
I grow them now, and with the niger feeder too, throughout the year always have GFs in the garden ... got their young with them at them mo too ...:p
:p
Hmm..top tip Rog. My neighbour sort of specialises in teasels(:D) but I don't see no Goldfinches about.
While you're all about, how can I get the better natural photos? Very broad question, but any tips on it?
You really gotta get rid of the feeders Dan. If there are no feeders in the shots then the shots could just as easily have been taken in the wild as in the garden. Take the feeders down and instead start regular early morning feeding with a few handfuls of seed thrown around key areas of the garden. With a bit of crafty planning and feeding around shrubs they can perch on, which are at the right range for your lens, you can get good natural looking shots with nice OOF backgrounds.
Give the birds a few days to get used to where the new cafe is and you'll soon be grabbing great shots.
Ah thats an awesome reply! Think I will try that :)
Just gotta try and attract some pretty birds, not just ****ing sparrows :(
Ps. Midlands is where I'm from, nearly

And sit still, very still when trying to shoot !
No need to cammy up as they soon get used to your presence.
They are more wary of things like cameras on tripods so be patient ... they soon overcome !
aye, cool. I will try it in the morning I think, I have work but who cares!

LOL Sparrows is getting quite rare now to what they used to be.
Well I'm smack in the middle of the Midlands, so come up with a meet idea. ;)
ooh you are? what kind of area? I was just thinking a wildlife reserve or somet :/
sparrows.. rare! lies :(
If you have some shrubs with dense foliage, throw a handful of feed over it so that some lodges in the foliage. That soon gets them perching there looking for seed. ;)
Don't go over-feeding though... make 'em work for it a bit.

Sparrow flock at around 35 to 40 in our garden with the youngsters ... though one less now ... as I had to terminate it after it flew into our patio window ! :'(
Poor thing ... hate having to do this ... :shake:
There's always zoos. I haven't been to Dudley Zoo for years, but I think it's pretty crappy now. I'm up for any sort of meet really - doesn't have to be wildlife.
