Davey... I don't see any photos.

No photos here either
Assuming from the descriptions (no photos for me either!) that there are spiders among these you might also post a warning in the thread title.....!
Davey has deleted his photos because he's less than impressed with not receiving any feedback. I must admit I don't recall seeing this thread, and I try to keep abreast of new posts, but I can understand how he feels. Let's remember feedback is important to all of us, and try to offer comment on pics when people take the trouble to post them .:)
ive been out all day! sorry Dave!

I too have been out all day and not online until about 8pm, so didn't get chance to comment.
Davey, am sorry you dont feel that you have had any feedback, however you only posted them at 1341, and a lot of people dont access during the weekend, and also England were playing this afternoon. I have had a few posts with little or no feedback as well, its par for the course, some posts run off the page before people see them, but you do at least have to give people time to look through them ! I have to say i have been in and out all day as i am at my parents, and to spend a lot of time online is a little out of order, so i just have a fast scan through, but during the week i have more chance to read the board and post properly.
I think Davey was a little precipitous to pull his posts after such a short time, but I think we have to grasp the nettle and accept that we're not getting the quality feedback on pics that we used to... no-ones fault particularly, but there are a lot of 'Great shot' type responses these days, Sometimes that's all that can realistically be said... but not that often. ;)
I suspect that having two forums - Sharing and Critique is responsible for some of the lack of response. If pics are posted in Sharing, particularly if they're not 'all that', then people will choose to say nothing rather than possibly offend, when on the face of it, the poster isn't looking for critique.
I wonder if we should just have one forum for pics?

I am not sure. I think people put a lot of pictures up just to show a photo that they are please with, not necessarily for an in-depth critique. They might just want an acknowledgement that they work has been seen. If they want a detailed critical analysis of their work they can use the appropriate forum.
Saying that I do agree that people don’t use the Critique forum enough and just saying “that’s great” is a bit lazy (though I am sure we are all guilty of it to some extent); a comment on a positive aspect of the photo would be more personal. Every photographer here wants to better themselves and is grown up enough to take polite criticisms.
I have agued both sides there haven’t I?
Anyway, Davey, put your work back up and let us comment, i promise not to put "thats great";)
Well under the previous 'regime', and the way the forums were set, critical comments were discouraged in the Photo Sharing forum.
When we became Talk Photography, we realised there was too much of a distinction between the two forums, and thus we changed the Critique forum, to InDepth Critique, and altered the descriptions accordingly.
To be honest, it's our fault (OK, mine, I probably forgot to do it :p), as we should have been more vocal about the change, because as it stands people are afraid of replying with anything other than 'great shot', because it wasn't previously allowed, unless it was in the critique forum.
Well now it is :D  ...you can be critical in the sharing section, but not deeply so (for want of a better phrase). If you have advice on what might make the shot better for you as a viewer, then by all means offer it. Just don't go *too* in-depth, unless it's in the InDepth Critique section :)
Hope this explains a few things, and puts your minds at rest :)

Likewise, my apologies for no comment. My broadband server Telewest had some wires cut by vandals in Bristol and 100,000 homes lost both TV and BB service yesterday so I am staying late in work to surf the net.
It is often said that no comment is worse than any, but I agree, no need to pull them. Some of my work has attracted no comment but it does not overly concern me. Also, my style appeals to a lot less people than others but I love it and I think that is all that matters even when people dismiss a shot you love.
Please repost your work.
Diego.
The level of comment is going to vary with the amount of content - more pictures less comment per picture. before I went away for a week there was an appeal to post more. Judging by what I saw when I returned there were many more posted.
I look at the page view count - this thread has well over a hundred views and the pictures would have been seen my many people. Comment or not does not matter to me (nice yes but not essential). You post pictures for people to see and they are looking.

On the subject of commenting on pictures...
When I do comment there is always the dilemma of guessing the experience of the person you are commenting on. There are 'rules' for composition for example. A picture by a newbie that ignored the rules would get different comment to say the same picture by (say) Gandhi who would probably be breaking them on purpose. etc..
Just wondering if there was some way other than post count to base the judgement. Hmmm more I think about it the more difficult that seems  :)
^^you sayin I pay no attention to the rules of the art lol^^
Tis indeed a tricky one, From a personal point of view, I've found that some of my posts get comments, others don't. Generaly, I used to feel (rightly or wrongly) that if people didn't like something, they wouldnt comment on my stuff, I've posted stuff that's had 1 comment, some that have had hundreds (well maybe 10 or so ;) ) Either way, it didn't phase me. I came to realise recently that people have many agendas, jobs, time-frames etc. So you can't realisticaly expect people to post comments and feedback everytime. Lord knows, I already spend far too much time talking and reading about photography when I should be out actually doing it lol!
I'm quite thick skinned and would rather people spoke their minds rather than just go 'nice shot' The flip side of that is that unless I mention it in the OP, then I only post stuff I'm truly happy with, then if people don't like it, it's up to them. I'm not about to chuck my toys out of the pram if people don't like my work. It's art so it's all subjective and as long as I'm happy and comfortable with it, then that's all that matters. And trust me, when it comes to my work, I'm the harshest critic around.
Can we have a 'give me some ****' button I can have ticked please?
I agree that we dont use the critique section enough, but maybe that is because we all tend to give critical appraisal in the sharing forum. I don't think unifying the two would help, just increase the amount of posts in the sharing forum to the point that nobody will be bothered to look at them due to sheer volume.
I could ramble on for hours about this as It's one of the fundamental uses of this forum, but I don't have the answers, if any are needed.
Don't take it personally davey, I doubt very much that it was a reflection on the quality of your work, or an issue with you as a person.

Thing is with me and may be like loads of others is that I only comment one those that blow me away!
I post loads and to be honest, as I really only post on 1 maybe 2 passions, if I don't get any comments, I'm not really bothered, in fact, I find that better as if people post, the usual comments are "could be sharper" which I roll my eyes to and ignore :) LOL
Davy, post your images,
Carl.
