View Full Version : Nikon Servicing
My D80 is around 3 years old and has almost 7ooo actuation's so I was thinking about getting a service done. The lcd screen has a few marks on it which are a bit of a pain at times. How much would I be looking at to have this replaced as well as a full service and sensor clean:shrug:
If you send it to Nikon they will look at it and then let you know how much it is going to cost before they get your consent to do anything to it so it may be worthwhile giving them a ring and see if they can give you some idea of cost. You might want to give Fixation a call as well as they are also a Nikon repair center - http://www.fixationuk.com/Fixation/Repairs.html
I,m sure I,ve read on the forum somewhere that a replacement lcd is around £100. Try a search, might get lucky?

I think I will try AJ Johnstone as the wife works nearby £100 is a bit steep

I don't think the actual screen part is expensive to buy (it comes on it's own, you don't need to buy an lcd) and it isn't too difficult to fit, it depends however if Nikon UK will sell you one, Nikon US will, but the UK lot can be awkward about supply parts outwith the trade.

It won't be cheap, I was quoted £158 for an out-of-warranty repair (DBS which is ironically now fixed by a firmware update, and banding with some minor cosmetic repairs (letters fading).
Personally I wouldn't bother if its cosmetic, as you are paying an hourly repair (labour) rate, it'll be £100+ and you'll need to add VAT.
7,000 is nothing, D80's are reported to have done 1 million plus.

If you think £100 is expensive then I'd suggest staying away from Johnstone's. You'll be looking at £25-45 for just the sensor clean, so you'd better budget £150+ for everything...

I'll get a landscape prime some other time.:)
