Is it me or is everyone else's D200 power hungry (and not in a fascist regime kind of way)? :)

I have two Nikon batteries plus a third-party one and they all seem to drain really quickly, especially if I have on 'stand-by' when downloading images from the CF card to my Mac.

I'm not adverse to spending the extra on Nikon batteries, but is it actually worth buy Nikon ones if they'll drain just as quickly as cheaper 'copies'?

I always felt I got good use out of my two nikon Batts. One thing I always avoided though, was a USB download, as it did drain quickly.

Compared to the 300 and 70S, I find that the 200 is very hard on battery life.

The D200 sucks donkey danglers for battery life.

I felt lucky if I managed more than 220 tbh!

I have two Nikon batteries in my D200's grip and they will last me a 3 day event without any problems, though i use a memory card reader when transferring images to my laptop rather then the camera.

Similar to my own experience.

My D200 would easily last an entire day on one battery, I had three, but never had to use all three even across a three day shoot of some 400-500 shots a day. The d300 on the other hand already seems nearly twice as power hungry and I have just ordered yet anoter nikon battery to make that up to a total of 3 just to be sure I have enough power.

Hmm..I have heard the D300 is much much better than the D200 for battery life. I never had a D200 but certainly have no complaints with the D300 - just checked current battery and have shot 474 shots and have 55% of the battery life remaining.

I have 2 genuine Nikon batteries in my grip and they seem to last for ages, I do take the CF out though and transfer the pics using a cardreader built into my PC.

I only have one jessops battery in my grip currently and it lasts a good day's shots

As said before though, it depends on your photography style/area. Long focus changes/flash/LCD viewing etc etc.

Mine typically does very well on battery life?

I've had 700+ shots from one full battery in my D200.

Just a thought but there is a firmware update for the D200 which cures a battery meter problem - maybe you need that.

I always use a cardreader rather than downloading direct from the camera.

This is very odd, I got my D200 back in November 2005, and everyone was moaning about battery life, just search Nikonians or DPReview around then.

It's making me wonder if they wasn't some sort of silent hardware upgrade, because I agree with Fracster, the D200 is much much worse than the D70s and D300 for battery life.

Almost as if we are talking about different cameras, as I do not recall such a power hungry beast before or since!

Thinking on this a tad more (yes I do occasionally think....:D).......before I had the 300, my 200 was usually hooked up to the 70-200 or 80-400, I wonder if the VR affects it badly?.....

I dont know why lots post saying they get poor battery life on the D200.

One battery would easily last me two, five hour shoots shooting in raw

I never experienced poor battery life with my D200 - I could get 600-700 shots out of mine, at the bare minimum, with lots of image reviewing etc.

And the D300 is even better! I have 2 batteries, but only ever used one. 1200 shots on Mull, not even halfway down the power-bar.
