View Full Version : Tamron SP 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD
XR DI UFO FBI TDI CIA
Aside from the many letters after the lens, i've seen a number of people on here with this lens and i'd just like to know what the general opinion on this one is :D
I've got £250ish to spend and i've been looking at this lens... I'll probably be able to strech a bit more, but i'd like to stay around that price range. There is also the Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 which is in this price range, but from what i've read the Tamron is supposed to be sharper + smaller.
Sample pictures are also greatly encouraged to get me to buy this :p
i have one and its great
on laptop so not got any examples to hand

Found this link which kinda answers my question... Tamron it is? :p
I went through a period of trying different constant aperture zooms.
I tried :
Tamron 28-75mm
Tokina 28-70mm
Nikkor 35-70mm
Sigma 24-70mm
I didn't like any of them. The IQ just wasn't what I was after... Except on the Tamron - which was the sharpest out of the lot of them. But the build was IMO rubbish - not something I'd be happy with.
In the end I just got an 85mm prime, which wizzes all over them - but is obviously missing the wide end.
In short - the Tamron will probably suit you just fine, as long as you're happy enough with the build :)
edit : oh yeah, and of course it had a silly name :D

I've recently got a 17-40 F4L and have been using the Tamron 28-75 a bit less lately. Can't say i understand the build quality comment as it feels fine to me...even compared to the F4L. The PQ is pretty equal as well.
At the moment I can't decide which lens to keep. I like the 17mm but I also like the f2.8
I'll try and remember to sort out samples tomorrow.
I'm more finicky about build than most, no doubt about that - from what little I used it it really was an ace lens. I just know I wouldn't have been happy with it.
They probably stock it in Jessops - go down there and have a whirl, that's your best bet :D

Did actually go down there today when i was in town with my mates to have a look for one, but they didn't have one :(
Instead they had a sigma 800mm F/5.6 MONSTER though
Sample at f2.8 75mm not long after I got the lens
