Hi, only just noticed this, but when I zoom out on my new L lens, the text on the barrell goes to 24. When I zoom in it goes to 70! :bang: :cuckoo:

Whats that all about, is it a fault. Never had a lens like it. In fact I worked out the lens zoomed in and out, back to front straight away but did not notice the text.

Odd... Surely it should be the other way around?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Any ideas?!?!?!?!?:gag:

I don't get what you're saying... It's right surely?

No, when the lens is fully extended at 70mm the reading on the barrell should say 70 yeah? it does not, it says 24mm Likewise when I go to 24mm is it says 70mm...

Have I been using primes and push and pull to long?

?!?!?!?!?

That is correct :)

It's to make best use of the lens hood. At 70mm the lens is shortest and at 24 mm it's at it's longest.
The lens hood is fixed therefore maximising it's effect :)

OK, thanks :)

It's this attention to detail which makes this lens awesome :)

Yeah - I honestly think that this lens is more than I can chew at the moment.

Alright, my right hand is a bit ropey from saturday nights event, my left shoulder hurts like a good un but man o man this is one heavy lens, especially with all the other gubbins added. It heavier than the 100 - 400L and thats no slouch.

The worst thing is I cant get out and test it as hurts to much. Hopefully be better by the weekend :(

I want my mummy  :cuckoo:

I can only really see myself shooting at around 1/160 minimum with this due to the weight...what effect will that have on my stuff? Is aperture more critical?

I've been using the Canon 24-70L for weddings over the last year or so and I still feel that I haven't got the best out of it yet.

The weight is one of the reasons why the 24-105 F4 L IS is a better walk around lens.

How heavy is it?

I quite like a heavy camera/lens combo, I find it helps with avoiding camera shake - more so than a very light one. There's no denying the fatigue factor of carrying a heavy combo for long periods though.
