Just wondering if everybody is happy with the format/structure timings etc for this? If you have any suggestions for ways to improve it or inject a bit of something then now is the time to speak up!

Theme ideas requested as well please....... my thoughts are.....

transport,
the 5 senses,
nightlife,
my town,
my favourite thing,
food,
what I did on my holidays,
journalistic style,
Portrait,
Pets (just for rob when he gets back)

Anymore appreciated and I'll take the best!

Thanks in advance!

I think the comp and assignment would get more entries if they were more noticable. Not sure how though :)

Maybe a locked thread that says 8 days left for assignment and 15 days left for comp (as the thread title so you don't have to open it?) that gets updated and bumped regularly. Need some kind of advert/reminder to keep awareness up. I know they are there but I always think there is more time left than there is.

I think that's down to my poor housekeeping Robert more than anything! I'll certainly try and pimp the challenges a bit more, tis a fine line between gentle reminders and bein a pita though. I normaly fall towards the latter unfortunately lol.

Totally aggree with Rob 100% as similar thing has happened with the main comp. Having some sort of banner /advert flashing up saying xxx days/hours left would be good.

That's a good idea. We'll definately look into that.

I think the problem I find personally, and the reason I personally don't enter is that they have always been hard to 'find' IE Where we're up to with the comp etc, as the threads intermingled and disappeared. Hence the reorganising into competition and inspiration forums.

As it stands now, the comp I can follow, but the themes I find hard, there's one thread for this, one thread for that, another for images etc.....

Would one thread for each theme (ie submissions AND discussion in the one thread) be easier? And it could be titled with the theme, and a closing date, with a running poll as a sticky denoting which is coming next ?

Maybe one thread whilst it runs with pictures and comment then paste the images into a new poll thread for voting only? (that won't bump awareness though ;) )

Well we were supposed to have abadonded the voting on the themed shots, as it's supposed to be more of an inspiration rather than a competition :D

But if everyone wants to keep voting on them then....:D

Thought that was what made it different to the 'post your pets/macros/whatever' threads?

Not for or against voting really. Wonder if it puts people off thinking they might get no votes?

Well the reason behind it was that if there's a winner then it's technically a competition, so why isn't it in the competition forum, (if that makes sense).

I suggested to the team that it might be better if we turned it so it was more inline with the forum, and made it an inspiration...basically the theme was to give people an idea of something to photograph, a joint aim as it were, then we can all go and shoot our own interpretation of the theme, and discuss our shots accordingly, without there being any winners etc.

That, and the fact, it's pretty much the same as the competition, only run over 2 weeks instead of 4...

nobody bothered to tell me that! lol!

I understand completely about the multithread nightmare.

How about if I condense it all down into one thread for this version and remove the vote at the end of it all? Try it like that for a bit and if it falls flat on it's face we can always change it back or look at another way of doing it??

'tis good this intererenet malarky, democratic and flexible :)

hehe

Can try it that way if you like. Not sure if you have permissions to remove the poll at the end of it though...or if such a permission is assignable (like the ability to create polls) (although a quick RTM would give us the nod to do it for you ;))

Anyone else got an idea / preference as to how it should work?

Do you remember when we had 2 threads and a nice swish clicky linky between the 2 so that you could go from one to the other easily. That was really good - IMHO

To bump the days left perhaps on the front page could we not do a timer sort of thingy - so many days left on such and such comp, or such and such assignment - Or if this could be under the calendar or at the top of the usual forum that might be an idea.

Ok thats todays idea - time to go back to my box and fall asleep - too much work done already. :D

So - time to think up a theme for the next assignment then? I've missed the last two. I also missed the level of discussion that usually arises over the assignments. Not sure whether the lack of it was to do with there not being a vote, or not......?

I think it was just low visibility.....seemed to dissappear somehow.

Might be nice to have a bit more disscussion surrounding the photos for the theme as this time doesnt seem to be many disscussion points. I would like to know what people think about them without having to past them in the photo sharing area.
