Anyone use one?

I see Canon make this one, but Id rather spend a quarter of this price if possible:

Would like to see anyones work if theyve done any timelapse as well:shrug:
thanks

Not sure if markp still has any bits lying around for these any more, but there are these http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=20852&highlight=timelapse - I have one and it works a treat on my 350D

I use Nikon camera control for shooting tethered, or wireless, it also has a time lapse function, which is virtually unlimited in duration and frequecy of actuations.
Ofcourse, you need to be connect to a pc to use it, but the longer these questions of camera control keep cropping up the more I think, my god, they missed a trick giving this software out free with Nikon Capture 4, which incidentally is yonks old.
I know I'm bashing down the wrong door, but you could check to see if this type of software is available in Canon flavour, assuming shooting pc linked is an option.

thanks Joxby, Id rather not have to carry and set up my laptop everywhere I want to try it though. I do think that the software exists for Canon though.

I have one, almost identical to that, that I got from ebay for about £28. Works a treat. I normally use it for capturing large numbers of frames for astro work, but I did a brief time lapse ani to show the stars rotation. Excuse the size, it was the only way I could find to get the gif small enough. This was 5x30s at 55mm, shot at a 3 minute interval.

If there's enough interest then I can run off another batch of PCB's for these and build some more

Also, you can check to see some ebay sites that have similar kit for a lot less! Just a thoughts

Markp you can count me in, Im looking to take it away in two weeks time though so timeframe might not work.

Wail, yes I can see a lot of them but all international sellers, Hong Kong etc.
I really need it in the next two weeks so may not ship in time.

I might just do a batch of 5 or so next week, first-come, first-served. Will let you know!

I have a D3 so have time-lapse built in ... used it for a short while to good effect. Then realised that it was adding an awful lot of really unnecessary shutter actuations to the camera. So now if i want to do time-laspe work i will invest in a decent-ish camcorder with it built in .. i just use the D3 for what its good at ... taking great pics ! :)

anyway .. .thats just my thoughts on the subject ... :|

For the price of it, you may as well get this. (http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=226563)

£45, and nice and compact.

Love that Red cam footage as well. Apparently everyone who bought those early are rich out of rental fees already!

Ill be using my 350D which will be a second body soon so Im not worried about shutter actuations. Very good point though I hadnt even thought about that. 30 seconds of footage runs up about 1000 clicks!

I might be wrong...but wouldn't you playback at 30 fps, therefore 30 seconds being just 30 clicks??

I would be interested in one of your timers Mark if they will fit a 300d?
Also I know two 350d owners who would most probably be interested too when they see mine!

I believe they fit the 300, 350, 400 and possibly the 450D. I'll try and order parts on Monday and etch some more PCBs.

Thanks,
Mark

You'd play back at 30 frames per second (or 24) So 30 sec * 30 frames = 900 frames.

Jimmy_Lemon

or as it doesn't really need to be quite as smooth you can lower the fps, I have done some as low as 12fps and it still looks ok.

Think this one is 12 fps
mYKpwZzSL0E

using Markp's timer too.

EDIT - infact that might be even slower.

Will it go on a 40D?

markp

Will it go on a 40D?

Only if you have a remote release for it that has a 2.5mm jack socket on it (can get them off Ebay for a fiver) since I can't get the Canon connector that they use on the 40D.

markp

Similar to:
http://www2.markphelan.net/IMG_3438.jpg
But has a power switch and 2 LED indicators - one to show power and one to show when the shutter is firing.

Specs? Erm...
9v battery
Interval of about 0.5 seconds to 30 seconds
Black case
Yellow knob
6 inches of cable

coldyn8w

wow that looks awesome, I was expecting a cardboard box or something.
Was kinda joking about the specs, Im just glad it has a yellow knob thats all

Im really keen!!

I might be interested in one of these please markp. What sort of price would you be looking at?

markp
13-11-2008, 13:59
As long as the price of parts hasn't gone up too much they'll still be £15 delivered, including a battery.

For those with the canon connector there is always this version, about the third of the canons own price. and with complete control.

Ebay Timer Remote (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Timer-Remote-TR-90-C8-for-Canon-20D-30D-40D-50D-5D-1Ds_W0QQitemZ200275773058QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pho tography_DigitalCamAccess_RL?hash=item200275773058&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318)

I was assembling these over the weekend and the timer chips I have been sent are the wrong ones. Replacements have been shipped out to me today so I should be able to get these tested in the next few days. Sorry for the delay.

Hi Mark

Do you have a version that will fit the 5D?
I think it uses the N3 connector?

markp
01-12-2008, 14:46
I'm afraid I've never been able to find anywhere selling the N3 connector when I looked in the past. If you get a remote control for it with the N3 connector, some of the ADIDT ones have a 2.5mm jack socket on them which you can connect the timer to. I've done this with my 40D and it works fine.
