I have tried to get a different look to this shot, I asked a friend about the technique she had used to get a sort of painterly vintage look to her shots, I found herwork a bit dark so I brightened my version up a bit....

I like that it looks very arty and classy. I'd have preferred it a bit more central though because I keep looking for the bar at the bottom of my screen to scroll left. lol.

that's a good point...perhaps I should have gone for him on the left hand side cos he's looking towards the right ??

I like the colours, gives a sense of warm richness. With the contrast of the border, that would make a great print to hang on the wall.

Much better, I'm not searching for the horizontal scroll
Wish I could take photos that good or find the subjects.

Hi Marianne, what did your photo look like before PS, can you post the original.
I'm no good at PS, converting to mono and cropping is my limit at the moment.

Neil.

Got to admit I would never have seen that as a photo op. Still I'll keep trying and looking.

the trick is to shoot big so you have plenty of pixels to play with, mind you I also go in close when doing other stuff and try and fill myframe so it doesn't need cropping...you never can tell lol

While I know that the subject is usually supposed to have space to 'look into' in this instance I much prefer the first shot but, perhaps its the processing you used thats effecting my judgement, whichever, I think it looks lovely and Id love to see more as well as know how! ;)

The waves and colour of the sea on the first looks great to me.

How do you do it? it looks really good

Thanks

Look just like the first commercial en- prints of from kodacrome slides in the 60's. You can spot a picture and make something of it anywhere!

it wasn't difficult to do, I simply duplicated the layer in PS, then went to filter/stylise/diffuse and clicked anisotropic which gives it the arty edge...click ok...then I shparpened that layer a bit using the unsharp mask. I then duplicated that layer and did the sepia action in the default actions pallette and then merged down the layers so that the sepia action was on one layer and lowered the opacity to about 30%, then I merged down that layer onto the anisotropic layer and sharpened it again...its just a question of keep clicking and going back using the history pallette if it goes wrong. I'm a bit of a PS nut so can do this stuff quite quickly, all I can say is don't be afeared, enjoy it and remember to keep saving your work as you go along, as something different to the original name so you don't lose the original photo ;)

think i prefer the first picture, think it might be the colours, might get round to trying something like that eventually
