Do i need to install the software that came with the camera to pull the raw files onto my pc? it wont recognise the raw files are there but it will let me use jpg? i've just taken 300 odd shots in raw and i need them pretty urgently, can anyone tell me how to get them off the camera? if i need to download any software or if installing the disc that came with the camera the only way to go :(

theres no such thing as a stupid question unless you dont ask it..
you dont say what camera it is.... install the software and see would be my advice... but above all dont panick.. you will get them one way or another :)
you either install the software or you can use picasa or many other utilities - lightroom / photoshop
or you can do it manually using the camera or card as a removable drive.

i have photoshop but it wont recognise the raw files on there? it just says there is the one jpeg which i just took as a test. x
You generally need to install a raw codec from the camera manufacturer for windows to see the raw files.
Then you can just remove the card and place in a card reader to copy the files over.

You may also need camera raw from adobe for your camera to work in PS. Which version?
you might need to update photoshop raw you can get the updates on the adobe website not sure exactly were though i dont use photoshop.
have you tried looking to see if the files are there in my computer using the card reader / camera as the drive? you should see the files even if you cant see the pictures.
You can download the latest version straight from here, just chose your OS
